  1. cars an e30 11/89 m20. 2.0l Fuel pump on the right hand side, drivers side. Brrrrr dunedin, do people still live there? Been there, horizontal rain...
  2. K' where's the fuel pump relay? Went into 'town' to get anopther pump & they closed early, went to the other shop & mother hubbards. A 2nd hand BMW pump $95 a new one $320. Super cheep where daughter works, with 25% discount $ 120, but made in Korea or something... Photo was to attract attention, bit of a skite too, It wasn't my car, it's hers! You's don't like girls?
  3. Hi'yall, My baby's car 89 320i e30. My daughter rang me in tears, her precious aint going... She drove away from here the other day & it sounded like it had a slight miss under accelleration, otherwise fine... She reckons it sounded rough one day when she was filling it up too... But today, she'd been getting munchies & the car wouldn't start, turned over, wouldn't fire. Then she sat for 5 minutes, tried it again & it fired up, she got round to her girlfriends place okay, just round the corner. That's when I got the call. Now I don't know much, but I pulled a plug & it was sparking okay. Then I followed the fuel lines up to the very front of the maniflod, where the 2 hoses are, one goes to a diagphram, I'm guessing a fuel pressure regulator or something, with a vacuum hose on the other side of it... Pulled them both off, looking for some fuel pressure when cranking it; Nothing! So I'm guessing it's the fuel pump. I lifted the back seat & asked adele to turn it on, see if it was pumping at all. She turned the key all the way & it started & ran. She turned it off & restarted it & it ran fine. Then the next time we started it, so dad could take it for a hoon, it wouldn't start, it'd start then die, like it wasn'nt getting enough petrol, it winds over, almost catches, but not quite. I've ben tryinfg to get a mobile mechanic with a diagnostic tool around tomorrow to look at it. I know there's a kiwi guy round here somewhere that does it??? Meanwhile, cos I'm a good dad, I'm getting a petroll pump anyway. Wish I hadn't sold the one off her last car. Please can anyone point me in the right direction? It's worth mentioning, we bought this car after PO got sick of fixing it, new head, cam belt trans. ICV & all the hoses are brand spanking.. I'll post sum pics of said daughter. FYI she's seeing the bouncer at the local pub, a maori guy!
  4. Hi y'all. We've got an '89 e30 1.8l Just changed the trans, new one burnt out reverse. duh, what's that smell? Possibly bent shaft since the car we took it from was Tbonered?? But, 1 possibility, the dead trans that came with the car?? Or... to my question. The HP22 that's in the 318's isn't that the trans used on the e34 6cylinder variants? There's a couple of wrecks around, but 325 & 323. unsure at this stage if they is early or late e30's? But put simply, what can we scavenge an auto out of that will fit a late model e30, the HP22 tranny?? Muchos gracias.. While I'm here, willa 2.8l head from an '84 e23 fit on a 3.5 block, e23 '85 735?? Cheers.
  5. Yeah, basically we're guessing. I hadn't touched it, but I know it's wrong to go filling it with chemiweld without eliminating a few other things first... Clue: it's been sitting nearly 2 years... Wood the injectors sieze up? Im pulled the leads off it today, pretty bodgy, changed a couple of them, got it running nicer, but something's still missing, running on 5. Not so keen on pulling a plug to see which cylinder. Also there's a hissing noise, like it's pumping up fuel , you can hear the pump down the back of the car & a hissing around the intake side of the motor. Sorry bout my writing I get a bit carried away!
  6. Hi Y'all. Last week, my brother & I bought an e23. Had bean sitting about 18 months. It's $900, $700 take it away, sold... The water's pretty ugly, water pump & rad both replaced by moi! Wouldn't fire up day 1, sew we came back armed up, did the rad etc. Instead of seeing if it wood fire up fresh Bodgy rips out the leads, breaking them... He patches them up, shortens the ends & crimps the connector back on, bit of insulation tape... Fires up, runs on 4.5 cylinders... No surprises there. Drives it home 20 odd K's. Sit's on my lawn for a week, while he uses my 23 wich never misses a beat, cos i llok after it... Comes down with leads froman old e23, a 728 with the different dizzy, chops & changes the leads. Puts a new battery innit , wont turn over, pulls the pugs, reckons #6 is full of water, eye reckon it's fuel, eye dint sea any water... spins it a few times, plugs back in fires up on 5 now! Takes it for a test drive, (fills the trans) now reckons the trans is 'brown & smells bad'. He reckons the head's gone, down to the shop for (another) botle of chemi weld, he loves that brown & smelly... Tips that in, still only running on 5... Seems to me he's got it all wrong.\ First test the leads, see if that back cylinder is firing before he duz anything else... Coincedence the same cylinder not firing, but i did see how he ripped the leads out, by the leads, not the rubber boot?? The cars gunner shudder if it's only running on 5, not neccesarily indicitive of a blown trans? Personally I think he got had, I wouldn't have bought it, no matter how cheap it was, no coolant, frost plugs weeping. But it does fire up first kick... To me it's not showing any signs of a blown head, he thinks its jetting water into that back cylinder, that's why it wouldn't turn over... sure it wood fire on the other 5 & not just refuse to turn... It's not losing water, there's no compression of the water as ewe wood expect & as I have unfortunately experienced once before... Oil & water are not mixed, no water from the exhaust apart from sum condensation. He's put a bottle of Chemiweld thru it & it's still only running on 5/ Do ewe think he's got it wrong? He's working on this entire scenario, want s to put the 2.8 in to it, dump the motor & the trans. Sounds like a hole lotta trouble, he hasn't even tested the leads yet, just running on that scenario. Eye mite go up to super cheap auto here in Rockingham & get a new sert of leads, from my lovely daughter, maybe steal the leads from her e30? I know how much BMW leads are, I'll sea if eye can use made up leads. Meanwhile, to end this story, any ideas on who's rite or wrong???
  7. Thanks Mate, I only looked at it briefly, I've got meathead the mechanic on the job, my bro... He fell off Devonport wharf when we were little, think he's never bean the same since...He'll lose patience inside 2 minutes & bodgy it up with some araldite. We had a plan of buying up a few old cars over here. But it hasn't really got of the ground. My idea of fixing a car is to clean it up, give it a service, change some parts over, say a head off another car... His idea is to tip sum chemiweld down the gullet & see if it'll make it to the end of the street. We had that e12 5 speed sold to a guy on ebay, $1600 told him we'd change the head & get it going... But when it sold he wouldn't do it, wanted to chemiweld it. so I cancelled the sale & told hiom to go back to Chevy's. We bought a clapped out e23 for the head for the e12, other bits for my old e23, got an e30, had a spare trans from when I wrecked my daughters car... If I can ask you about our latest joke, without posting it out there on a new thread?? He bought an e23 735i. Hadn't been going for over a year, frost plugs are rusted out... Wwent & looked at it day 1. wouldn't fire up, owner reckoned they had had it going past few daze... Came back with tools day 2. Put on a new water pump I had & a spare radiator. THEN.... He pulls the spark plug leads off, we had a set of plugs... before seeing if it wood fire up as is... He breaks the leads as they were well stuck on, patches them up as a bodgy chev mechanic mite, but surprise it runs like sh*t. 4.5 cylinders. He drives it home, it sits on my front lawn for a week. He takes the leads out of the 728 e23, with different dizzy... patches them up to fit the 35.... Now the story... It still runs like sh*t, maybe 5 cylinders now, he's lost his patience, F**en germans, over engineer eberything (he has 2 take the ear box off).. Long story short, reckons it's got water in the bore, pulled the plugs, looked to me like petrol! Yeah it wont start sometimes from the key, relay by battery instead, put a new battery innit, wouldn't turn over, he reckoned it was full of water.... Bottle chemiweld, still runs like crap... I think he's got it all wrong, there's no compression of the water or any symptoms you'd expect from a blown head. I think he's gotta get the gorse out &n buy a decent set of leads. (when was the last time eyesore gorse) Then maybe flush it, change the frost plugs etc. Leaks oil badly too, maybe the seals are perished? I should'be said something when he bought it, but he wanted it, he's been driving my 23, likes the style... Anyway I think the answer's obvious. I wont take up any more of your time. Cheers.
  8. Hi Y'all, e30 318 auto out of the car. Trans going back in, someone has ripped off the kickdiown cable, like taken it out... I sold rthe engine & the guy gave back the trans, minus above cable. Now meathead is having trouble reinstalling it. Seems like ewe gotta take the trans apart & hook the cable end back around something. Think meathead has gotten a spring or something jammed open, she'll be rite mate...
  9. Kinhel mate, gunner need a lot of stamps!cheers but!
  10. Hi Y'all. greetings on behalf of the other 1/2 of NZ's population, living here in WA I got a major mish in front of me. Gotta take the dash out of my e23, just to fix the odo. Like who cares where you,ve been,... But I've got a cluster out of a wreck, sused out the odo etc. reckon I could fix that... Then we got another car that nothiong works, speedo, tacho, vacuum, nothing. Haven't even looked at it yet.. But please please, does anyone have a diagram of how to take out the dash of an e23. I've found one befiore for an e30, that was pretty easy, considering I dint have to put it back together again... Gotta fix the heater on my old beast, & the odo. then suss out the next e23 battlecruiser... Thanks
  11. If I send some stamps can you send me an M60 6 speed?
  12. Ya know, I had a good look at this car yesterday, showing my auto born daughter jhow easy a manual was to drive, siting in the drive playing pretendsies, my daughter was 19 yesterday...But I'm sure this old e12 has a 5 speed box innit. It's not a Toymota box. Reverse up past 1st. 1st to 2nd, there is a definite gateway, kind of a feel about the change 3rd & 4th, then another slot above 3rd!! Is it possible to find information on a particular model, more so than what yous guys have dun already? To find the personal history of this car, it hasn't got plates.
  13. Rockingham. Nah but I got the pedals etc for an auto conversion!E12 has a 5 speed, not so keen on that slipping away, I got a good motor in the e23, rebuilt 70k's ago. Like to tie that in with the 5 speed...
  14. Hi Y'all. We've got cars coming out of our ears now! down the drive today we have an e30, jacked up & ready to recieve a new tranny. An e12, waiting for a head job... My old war cruiser the e23, my daily driver the e34... Then today after we've been shopping, wear coming home with 2 e23's an old one 2.8, sacrifice car, head , mags going on the e12. Then were having a lookat an e23 735 witch allegedly is a mintert, just has aleak in the water pump.. & I just happen to have a spare one... There is also 2X e28's in the paper, one's free to a good home, the other's just a few hundred... 'K so that's the intro, cars everywhere... Here's my plan... Make up an awesome e28 out of the old battlecruiser the e23.. The Question; What's interchangeable between these 2 models? Like Eye no the motor etc will fit to make a 535, but watt about all the steering & suspension? Presuming eye can find a nice body e28, I no my 23 has all good suspension etc, but the body's a bit of a roughy, too many close encounters with our old gate. Too many kids borowing dad's car wghen he's working away... Then, what about the old e12, I had a look at it today & it just mite have a 5 speed innit! What about putting all the running gear from the e23 into the e12, can eye match up the big 3-5 engiine in front of the 5 speed e12? watt if it's a 4 speed? Sea, over here in WA were so Isolated, cars are worth alot more, & there's only a finite quantity of Bemers, costs $3k plus to get one over from the eastern seaboard, wear most of the ozzies live... I realise this is a lot of information to decipher, but hell it's winter in NZ, so it's not like use'll be going outside for a few weeks yet!! If anyone can help me out with this I'd appreciate it!!
  15. Thanks for that, the old e23 we looked at had the same front mounted dizzy as the e12, that's why we're buying it! They both injected too! So Yes & yes I'll update on progress!
  16. Yeah, found a home for that & all..Thanks guys for the info, I've looked eurpoean cars ozzytrailer' first fives, an american bimmer forum & I checked out the E12 assertion, the one in German, nein spakken de deutsch... My laatest information tells me these cars were the s hit. What saved BMW from GM fate, the first five series. They put these out on the american market to match mercedes etc. So our up to date plan; is to purchase an e23 with a 728, same motor. BBBut... Does the older 7 series, the first e23 have the same head, cam etc? Like if we strip this new car, the e23, will the compression & the valves be the same? I'm thinking te 2.8's had a pretty bad rep 17l per 100km & not very fast. maybe that wood be the 7 series & i dont want to lose any performance advantage from 'downsizing to a 7 series head. Best case scenario, we swap heads, keep cam & hope compression's the same... Not interested in rebuilding every stray beemer that comes my way, If I wanted a rebuild it wood be my e23 with the 735i, or the M60 with a rebore & new cams & cylinder heads to match, sigh! Nun of the other forums I've written to have replied, Any suggestions as to how this car came to be wearing an ///M badge on the front? Wasn't a recent addition, as old as the car by the look of it... Did they have ebay in 1981? Thanks again.
  17. We put it on ebay for $1600.Cars are worth double over here cos were so far away from the rest of the civilised world, we're closer to mumbai than sydney!! We've got a 728 lined up that has the same head, so were anticipating swapping the head & the mags too. The 728 e23, early model, '84 I think should be more compatable, the e34 mags can sit in the garage until we find a home for them. My meayhead brother reckons he's gonna flush the motoer with some used oil & put some chemiweld down the water chute & sell it like that. If he does I'll be taking it off fleabay. I'm not having anything to do with Bodgy Motor Werks! As to the comment. what am I on, the old guy we bought it from sold us a fity as well!! Bonus to his pension... We've got the trans for the e30 now, he wants to list that for $3500 Bodgy Motor Werks....
  18. Numbers come in at WBACJ7209B4767127 Pictures on flea BAY Australia. salvage cars. Yeah I go for 2nd generation 528 e12. My bro reckons it's a 5 speed? We haven't g0t it going yet... Selling it as resto/ drift/hillclimb... It's got like the recaro seats too, they's aren't the std looking old car seats... Thanks guys
  19. Guess what I found in the weekend? My bro & I have been looking at a few cars l;ocally, picked upan e30 in Fremantle, 30k's from here for $1200, No trans, have a spare 1.. e30. vanilla... Then we checked this ad, way out of town, place called Pinjarra. Old guy was selling this car as an '81 323, e30 body. Went out there, & it was above e12, M badged, but don't think that's authentic, lowered, air dam, rear spoiler, e34 rims, well I think theye34, my e23's got the same rims... We had a rope on it inside 2 seconds! $300. no plates but just out of license. Blown 'head gasket' (how many times have I heard that one???). Oil in water, water in oil. Some young guys have had it & they owed this old guy $300 so that's what he sold it for! It's got cool skulls for door lockers, metals on the pedals, a racing steering wheel, big hole cut in the back seat panel for a sub... Pod air filter. Has ///M badge inside & ///M badge on front bonnet, old & faded so dunno if it's an ebay special? But it is a 4speed manual... As far as I can tell, by my research it's not a factory M series & it's Munich built. Reckon it's the find of the week but. Gotta be worth a dollar or two, obviously more than we paid for it.. We coulda picked up an old e23 last week, with the same motor & good head, the car... lots of spare bits for the messerschmidt, now we got a panzer too! Okay, so does anybody have much info on these "Panzers"? We would appreciate any insight into this car, eg value, collectability, coolness... Gonna swap around some parts, taken the NOS seat covers off it already, put an e30 steering wheel on it, given racy model to my daughters e3o, put sheepyskin seat covers on it. I've got some fotos...
  20. Thanks but i'm not looking right now.Looking for a good home for an e23?? will check out local bEEmer club ink..
  21. Hi Y'all. Here I am in Perth WA, I'm looking thru & seeing what people are paying for cars back home & what we pay for them here, maybe I'm coming home again. Incidentally; I rang the swine flu hotline last nite. All I got was crackling! I paid $8.5K for a e34 525i Jap import with 70k's from new, that was back in NZ, about 5 years ago. traded a commondoor for it! I already had a e28 M520i, yeah go figure that out, it's the same body package seats etc as 535! Paid $1000 for that. Over here, WA I bought an e23, 400k's on it, but new motor, leather electrics etc, great ride, 2 years good running, paid $3k for it, yard had it for over a year, started at $5k. Presently deregistered, has to go over the pits to relicence it... Funny thing here, you buy a car there are no W.O.F's, If it's a total wreck you can get stickereed by the coppers, but apart from that it's up to the owner to maintain; I've seen cars with rust holes you could park a car in! Bought myself an e34, 3litre V8, leather, 220k's on odo. tidy enough but not immaculate, paid $12k for it. Looked at a few, all around the same price. An e34 540, auto was $16k 535's were a bit cheaper. Bought my daughter an e30 2 door 318i for her birthday $2500, it was a bit rough, but went well, sideways well, I was quite impressed!! Unfortunately she got T-boned by a d*ck head, he was drinking, in his dad's work van, so no insurance for them , or for us, that sucks a bit!! But I salvages & sells everythuing off that, makes my money back & sues him anyway. Online valuation for an e30 2 door, average cond. 200k's $7k... Went to buy her another one, a few around, but they go like hot cakes... We decide on one from dealer, car dealer... '90 320 e30, tidy as.. but they cant get it to idle right, spent 000's on it new everything ICV's etc, new trans... we get it for $5k, factory radio etc, mint. My guy fixes it in 5 minutes! My daughters then boyfriend, Fromm the 'naki. He buys an e32, a few around for about $7k 1 was an absolute disgrace, rust in the water, body. upholstery crap, had 20" wheels but $7k! Told the dealer he was a disgrace trying to sell that, should be on the rubbish tip. Anyway he ended up getting a nice e32 735 for $5.5 We're pretty isolated over this side of the great desert known as ozzytraler. Cars are hell cheaper in the eastern states, but it costs about $3k to get them sent over here. I see the prices of cars in the USA, kids driving cars thaT COST A KINGS RANSOM OVER HERE! oops key lock.. I've still got the e28, I'm saving to get it shipped over here, about $5k. But I've already spent $3k on a new motor for it. don't ned much, bit of a tidy up... My boy's 16 this year So he can have it. Still got the e23, needs a head gasket... Kept it to fix it up, project car? Mite put the 3.5 into e28? So come on everybody, shame me out for moving here, What are we paying for cars in NZ? My brother wants to buy an x5, about $30k. i'll post some pictuires when I get arouind to it... help I'm turning into an ozzy!!
  22. tanks for that, what else is there that can be done?Like if the key's fine is there something on the car, like what above was saying, under the back seat?? I gotta go in to see my friendly service repair wrecker fella, need 2 new control arm bushes... Last time he told me I'd need a new key $500! If it come to that I'd put an aftermarket remote/alarm on it!
  23. Still don't work for me, tried as per the book, and another method I'd read where you have to facemecxca & run anticlockwise 3x around the car, with the key betwen your teeth, holding the round button down with your teeeth. The LED on the remote works!????
  24. HiY'all I tried this on my e34, it's got the same key I think? I got a new battery for this key but it's never worked, well, the key works, the remote don't. I tried sumthing I red pointing the remote at the mirror?? No good, I've got a dre led on the dash centre grill that ligths up when I lock the car. I turn the key & hold it, it locks the doors, shuts the windows & closes the sunroof. ut I cant get the remote to work. tried method described below me (say that aloud a few times (below me)... LED will lite up, but dont unlock. I've been quoted at $500 for a new key... would an aftermarket remote kit do the same thing? I'm jealous, my daughter's got an e30 & she can lock mit withher remote why cant I? my cars worth twice hers!! pe this thread's not closed off?
  25. Hi Y'all '94 e34 M60 530 V8. Gotta change the control arm bushes, just looking for a heads up before i slide the jack under it! Like I changed the arms in my daughters e30, easy as.. 'cept for getting at the top bolts, had to invent an extension socket drive. How am I going to get on with the e34? Given there is no room under the bonnet at all?? I haven't even looked at it yet, gotta go pick up the parts still... While i got your undivided attention, my windscreen washer's not working any more, the wiper still wipe, so it's not the fuse... Not tha we've seen rain for a few months!! Um & my rear suspension is making a clicking sound, like there's a bushing worn out on the top of the shock tower, my guess, but I'll change the front first see if it's just a transfer of sound?? or leave it, see if it fixes itself? that often works!!! Anyone can give me a few tips before I break out the tools I'd appreciate it. Cheers, oops sorry Cher bro!
