    I wondered the same thing.
  2. Prior to very recently I have owned very few cell phones, they were always provided by work. However the only old school one I owned was this (and as seen in the movie the Matrix) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Matrixphone.jpg It was good, although it didn't actually have a spring loaded sliding mechanism like the phone in the movie. That was added for dramatic effect.
  3. The guy just seems like a whinging prat. After all, all he did was win a B grade reality show. Sometimes when you get your 15 minutes of 'fame', you need to know when the countdown ends, and his ended the second that the show finished. He should just fade back into obscurity with his dignity in tact.
  4. That makes sense. AT&T retain a good portion of their wireless business due to the fact that they are the sole carriers of the iPhone. There are lots of areas in the US that do not have AT&T coverage.Verizon, the biggest wireless carrier here are getting their version of the iPhone next year, so that will make things interesting.
  5. Unless Apple have changed their T&Cs, the warranty is only valid for replacement or repair in the country of original purchase (I asked this when I got my iPhone 3G in NZ, as I knew I was moving to the US a few months afterwards).
  6. It is so that they can use a carrier other than AT&T. A lot of people don't like AT&T (although they seem fine to me, all our phone, internet and cable television is through AT&T).The guy who actually ended up buying my old 3G travelled a lot to Europe and had SIM cards for carriers in different countries, so he wanted the unlocked iPhone so he could use it on T-Mobile here, as well as with other carriers in Europe without having to pay roaming charges.
  7. Because I had my NZ iPhone 3G here, when I upgraded to the iPhone 4, I was able to sell my iPhone 3G for more than the iPhone 4 cost to buy, because it was unlocked as standard from NZ. When I advertised it on Craigslist for sale, I got more than 50 emails in the first hour it was listed with people wanting it. An unlocked, but not jailbroken iPhone is highly sought after here. Not very relevant to the original post, but I found it interesting at the time none the less.
  8. Like Nath, I agree with Graham as well.

This sounds very much as though it is a case of one egg in one of many baskets, so why the hell not.

Doctor: Hello. What seems to be the problem?Average Bimmersport Member: I'm not sure. Everywhere I look I see gardens of flowers. Doctor: Ahh, I see. Does this happen everytime you think about someone who has something you can only dream of having, or is very successful? Average Bimmersport Member: Why yes, now that you mention it that is correct Doctor: I wouldn't worry, you just have Tall Poppy Syndrome. It is an epidemic in New Zealand. Just take a couple of these green pills and carry on with life.

It was new to me. I guess we can't all be on the cutting edge of automotive news like you. It must be awesome to have your finger directly on the pulse, and be peerless in your knowledge.

Wow, that was a surprise. I like it.
  13. I read the posts on here and expected to see something completely hideous. I then looked at the car, and thought it wasn't too bad at all. A little much for my tastes, but not bad at all in my opinion. Also, I liked the Recaro kids carseat. We have two just like it, although ours are camel and black.

Jolly good, didn't know that (obviously).
  15. God damn that is cool. Great project!

Why on earth, if they were changing the water pump would they not change the cam belt at the same time, even if the one on there looked OK? The last change was done 87,000kms ago!

    POLISHED

That is a fantastic looking (and I'm in no doubt performing) car. Top effort!
  18. I considered that, so in the last while have taken extra care to keep my pits greaseless. I even drive, when possible, with my arms above my head so that I can get plenty of fresh air to the pits. If I get funny looks, I just start doing a Jersey Shore fist pump to try and make it look legit. However that seems to result in even more funny looks (as I don't look very much like a guido).
  19. That's what I was thinking as a possibility. I have certainly not used anything to clean/protect the dash, however who knows that may have been used in the past.It isn't cigarette smoke, I and my wife are non-smokers. I'll monitor it now that the weather is cooling down a bit. I don't recall having the issue last fall/winter/spring, just in the last 4 or 5 months when the weather has been really warm, and the car has sat in direct sunlight for 99% of that time. It is easy to clean, a quick wipe with a clean cloth gets rid of it quickly, it is just a pain in the ass.
  20. Thanks Glenn, I'll get the father-in-law to take a look
  21. The inside of the windscreen on the Passat gets a haze/film on it very quickly. I have very thoroughly cleaned it, and then within a couple of weeks I need to wipe the haze/film off again. What could be causing this. We have had lots of hot weather (high 30's low 40's) and I am thinking it maybe the heat reacting with something (maybe some product that has been used on the dash before?). Any ideas/tips to get rid of it once and for all? I quite look having a clear look out of the windscreen, especially when driving into the sun.
  22. Unless I'm missing something and failed reading comprehension at school, it is only meant to hit today.http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article....jectid=10674029
