  1. Well, its an m3 Jaz so its worth more than $1 or 2k. It's an 86 which means that it can be registered in nz under the classic car exemption for frontal impact standards which a tidy example in nz would be worth around $45k-60k depending on how tidy. Landed and on the road, you'd want it to have cost you $30k or less I'd say to make it worth the stress and chance you get a dog.

Oh, and it'll have to be RHD or else you can't do it.

Are you sure that a 20+ year old car has to be RHD to be registered in NZ? As I hope most of you are aware all E30 M3s are LHD.

  2. Ive wanting to import a E30 M3 from Japan, Im going to go for an 86 model as this is now 20 years old.

Has anyone on the forum imported and registered one in NZ trouble free this year?

What are the main points I should be looking at in regards to condition of a E30 M3, rust, interior condition etc

Also what should I pay for a nice tidy example?

  3. Is there anything to lookout for on Jap import E30 M3s?

I see more often than not ,that these cars in Japan are running different drivers seats and different rims, is there are reason for this?

Also it seems that most of the Jap E30 M3s are Grey, again, any ideas why?

Oh, and are the specs different on the E30 M3s from Japan compared to the Euro spec E30 M3s?

  4. Hi mate - wanna give me a clue as to how you have a shot of my car ;)

Thats a bit freaky - how did you know it was the same one too :o

Because I found the car earlier in the year here in Napier. My Father owns the M3 in the garage and Ive always been a fan. Anyway, what happened was that I was on the way to work and I spotted your M3 being pushed though some traffic lights as the battery had died, the car had the plates removed but had a dealer plate on the back. Turns out some legal issues (owners and stuff) was going down with the car and whoever was driving it was meant to be driving the car with no REG and WOF back to Auckland.

Once I got to work I walked back to check the car out (30 secs), no one was round it so I phoned my Father to tell him about (hes a car dealer) He ran the plates, got onto the owner and the story of the car, long story short the yard ended up buying the car and my Fathers mates Bruce Kirk (Auckland) who races classic cars bought it.

It is a nice car, rare as well being a 94 M3 with twin airbags

Does the car still have the Karamu plate Rego card holder in it?

  5. Stick with the 3.0.

The 3.2 has problems with the VANOS, they also dont seem to make the claimed power when on a rolling road where by a 3.0 does.

EVO (uk mag) wanted to build a E36 M3 8 min Ring lapper, they picked a 3.0 as the engine is stronger and can be tuned more.

If you want more power from your 3.0 go for a chip, an intake and an exhaust.

  6. Has anyone taken a look at the 87 M3 forsale in the latest Classic Car magazine.(inside back cover)

I gather it can't be complied for another year or so, but for only 15K it might be worth a look

From what I understand, you can only get a 20 year old imported car complied if it is imported when its over 20 years old.

  7. Gidday

BMW E30 M3 - for a RHD one anywhere from $35k - $50k (even higher for one in new condition). These are very rare here, and rarely come up for sale (there is a LHD one for sale atthe moment, but it can't be registered)

BMW E36 Evo - around $35k - $50k as well (you can get the 3.0l ones for around $25k - $35k). These are as common as dirt.

BMW M Coupe - not too sure, but I would guess around the $50k mark -  there are not that many in the country (there are a few M Roadsters, but fewer M Coupes).

    Cheers

    M3 E30s

Cheapest I've seen is $20k (LHD), but can't put it on the road until 2007. However, for a "drive away" car, I know of the following (all RHD):

    M3 (200hp) - only ever factory RHD - c.$105k (up in AKL)

    M3 convertible (200hp) - $45k on Trade Me (dealer)

    Evo I (200hp) - won't entertain prices less than $55k

    Evo II (220hp) - ditto

Evo III (240hp) - deal being struck around $75k

Evo III (240hp) - CAD65k (sold into the USA)

At the moment, it is a seller's market as you CAN'T import and road legal an E30 M3 until 2007 at the earliest (2010 for Evo IIIs). All versions are far cheaper in the UK, although salt / rust problems potentially and remain LHD.

Know of two crap M3s floating around CHC - would get personalised plates for them "CAVEAT" and "EMPTOR"!

So there is one factory RHD M3 in NZ? Is that why its so costly? 105k?

I know of a US spec 1987 M3 for sale for 35K done 90,000 miles, everything converted (RHD, wippers etc, etc) but it has the silly little flashers on the side of the bumpers front and rear.

Does this sound like a good deal?

And I gues it would be engine out to change the timing chain soon as well?

How many E30 M3 Evo 3s are in NZ?
