  1. The old boy has been toying with the idea of selling his E30 M3 2.3 and buying a Sport Evo. I found him a red one off shore done 66,000kms. I enqired about a price. Came back at $86,000NZ. Then ad the costs of importing it, GST, getting the car on the road. I dont think he would get any change from $100,000. For this reason hes going to stick with his 2.3.

  2. It went from involving everyone who is into cars (Nissans, Volvo, BMW, Holden, Ford, Toyota, Mazda...) to a series where only people who like Aussie V8s can participate. I understand that they just changed the class, but to the average joe - they banned teams other than the falcodores.

Ford hadnt raced Falcons in the ATCC since 1984 (the end of Group C). Infact Ford never raced Falcons in Group A rules. So to say "they banned teams other than the falcodores" is incorrect.

I love/loved Group A racing, but 20 years on we are all looking at Group A with rose tinted glasses. I wish and hope the V8 Supercars get more manufacturers into the game, its going to be tough though with the likes of Project Blueprint which controls the parity.

The rules of Project Blueprint have the Fords and Holdens running 5.0 V8's, the have the same tyres, the same brakes, the same suspension the same diff, the same gearbox, the same length. Both the BF Falcon and the VE Commodore have had a few centermeters across the center of the car removed. This happened because both cars are longer than what Project Blueprint rules are which were based on earlier model sizing. They have set points in the car where mesurements are taken from and have to be the same between the Commodore and Falcon (suspension ect).

What is coming out shortly though is a new formula thats mean to keep costs down, this is called "car of the future". Details havent been release on it yet but they will be shortly (this year).

It will be interesting to see what the forumla would be, Im guessing that the will be wanting to stay with a V8 engine.

If I was in charge this is what I would do. These would be my rules.

    - N/A 6 cylinder (just think of the large mix of cars you could have)

    - Max CC rating of either 3,000cc, 3,500cc or 4,000cc (I dont know which)

    - 2 wheel drive, either FWD or RWD

    - Must have 4 doors

    - Production of 10,000 cars

    - Engine and displacement of the standard car

    - No sheet metal or aerodynamic aids can vary from the factory model

  3. I know of the one that has been for sale for ever - convereted to RHD with some mods, possibly one other that has been turned into a race car ?

Any others that are original ?

    Sport Evo's Phil ;)

I know of 2, both black, both have current WOF's and Reg's in NZ, one is RHD and i believe its the car that has the modded induction system.

Oh, and Ive seen one rep in Auckland on dealer plates, I spotted that at parked on the side of a road outside of a dealer near some ice skating ring then again in a private garage on a main road on the North Shore.

  4. Yeah, RS2 - the Porsche fettled wagon one. Awesome.

No need to put a pic of mine up, it looks just the same as the one on this thread :)

ur quattro's turned rallying on its ear with its quattro system, for this reason it will always be a motorsport classic.

I think the ur quattro is to Audi fans what the E30 M3 is to BMW fans. Both have there place in Motorsport history, both are great drivers cars and both will be respected by true car/motorsport enthusiasts.

The last model ur quattro RR (20V) is a rare car, they have 220BHP, only 3 were sold new in NZ.

The Daddy of all quattros is the Sport though (short wheel base model).

Audi replaced the ur quattro with the S2, basically the same engine as the RR but in an Audi 80 shell and available in 3 variants, coupe, wagon and sedan. In 1993 Audi did a facelift to the S2 range introducing most notibly a 6 speed gearbox and upped power to 230BHP.

In between 1994-95 Audi and Porsche built the RS2, this was the last evolution of the ur quattros 5 cylinder turbo engine. The RS2 puts out 315BHP, is limited to do 262km/h, gets to 60mph in 4.8sec's and 30mph in 1.5sec's (faster than the then current F1 race cars and the McLaren F1 3 seater supercar).

Hopefully I didnt bore you BMW boys to much.

Oh, Apex, the ur quattro that you were for a ride in couldnt have been right, these cars do handle well, have good feedback and grip very well.

  5. I did a quick search before I posted this up - thought it might be helpful. But mods if you feel this should be elsewhere, can you please move it.

I've been replacing a couple of bushings on my car recently, and as we all know anything BMW OEM costs an arm and a leg. The alternatively is usually to import privately from overseas or source aftermarket parts. I did just this and imported a couple of bits and pieces. Most came in BMW packaging, but a couple of items came in Lemforder packaging. So I did a bit of googling and searches on forums, and low and behold, unbeknown to me originally turns out that Lemforder is the OEM supplier for BMW for a lot of their suspension and steering components.

Now I am not ignorant and am well aware that car manufacturing inovles a lot of outsourced parts from 3rd parties - I just didn't think that people pay too much attention to who these suppliers are and how much cheaper they are compared to BMW parts (which are basically just reboxed parts from 3rd parties).

Now the point of this post. I ended up doing a bit more digging, then realised that there's actually a company here in NZ that brings in these OE supplier parts supposedly at a fraction of the cost. Their website is www.speed.co.nz (now mods I am NOT affiliated to this company, didn't even know they existed till about 12 hours ago). I've not priced up anything from them yet, but it seems like a good alternative source to get genuine OEM parts at a fraction of the price (no idea if it is cheaper than importing directly though).

Have a look at Lemforder's website .. they have a great online catelogue.

    http://www.zf.com/brands/content/en/lemfoe..._lemfoerder.jsp

Anyway, just thought it might be helpful for those looking for genuine OEM parts directly from the manufacturer.

Hey Tom, Ive been in touch with Speed over the last month or so in regards to getting some new shocks for the RS2. From my experience they are very helpful and quick to reply. More helpful than Autolign (NZ Bilstein importer). Autolign wanted me to take out and send up my shocks up to them as they wanted to make custom items, even though I provided part numbers. Speed on the other hand gave me a same day price for genuine RS2 Bilstein's that was cheaper than what Autolign wanted to "make" them for.

From what I have been told Speed ship parts out from the UK/Europe weekly.

  7. No I haven't seen that one but there's a really nice Hamann kitted E39 540 about on huge Hamann wheels - no pplate though I don't think.

Have seen 2 E60 M5's about lately, both black

I know two local owners of black E60 M5's.

Richie who has the one with the hamann body kit, and Craig who owns the one with a rear spoiler.
