  1. My Lady is wanting to get a new car, shes keen on a Golf Mk4 GTI, and Im trying to talk her into a E36 318is Motorsport which I think Im bringing her around to, no turbo to worry about, and a chain over a cambelt etc.

Anyway is there anthing to look out for on these models?

Is there anything to worry about seeing as howthe were built in South Africa? Any odd ball parts?

Also, does anyone know what brand the factory shocks are for this model?

    Any advice is appreciated.

  2. Jim Richards In a Nissan Skyline trashing V8's springs from my memory now that was fun to watch!!

The R32 GTR only really raced against one V8 in Group A touring cars, and that was the Commodore. Have you forgotten in the early 90's, when Group A was on its last legs the GTR was also racing the E30 M3 and Cosworth.

Lets not forget that Gibson Motorsport had the largest budget by a long streach (in th ATCC), and the most technology advanced Touring Car.

  3. Hi - I have an M325i with the original steering wheel. I'm keen to keep the wheel as I want to keep the car original, but the leather is quite worn. Does anyone know anyone in AKL who reconditions these things? Or am I better to try and find a replacement?

    Help!

I used Trim Fix here in Hawkes Bay on one of my steering wheels, it came up reall well. I think they have guys in Auckland:

  4. I got my copy a few weeks ago. Its a great issue. Two things I dont like, the CSL tested in the M3 group test has upgraded brakes and suspension. I think this is unfair since one of the downfalls of the CSL is the brakes. Evo should be testing factory cars back to back.

The second thing is what a joke the GTS. More money than a GT3 and a GT3 RS! Plus I think the CSL might give the GTS a run for its money.

  5. Afternoon Folks,

Been looking at getting a second car, something around $15k, has to be manual and enjoyable to drive.

Have seen a number of S series Audi's on trade and something like the below really appeals.

My question is what sort of maintenance budget would you expect on a car likes this assuming it has been well maintained through out it's life. I do like the car but cannot afford bills over $1k every two-three months, I'm used to my $240 service every 6 months for the e30.

    What would you expect?

    Educated guesses welcome.

    Cheers for the steer.

Just remember with these engines that the cambelt needs to be changed every 80,000kms. It should have either just be done or its over due.

  6. Also, in 1987 there were two rounds of the Nissan Mobil, one in Feb and one at the end of the year which was for the first and only year of the WTCC.

Yes the Eggenberger/Texaco Cosworths were quick, but they were also cheats, as were factory BMW teams in the early part of the WTCC.

  7. For those that dont recall, or werent around, the Nissan Mobil was a 2 round series, the first round being in Welly, the second at Puke. I never went to the Welly rounds but went up to Puke a number of times (better viewing).

  8. If that E30 M3 is the real deal (which Im guessing it is) its the ex Peter Brock M3 that he raced in 1988 after his spit with Holden. The two M3's that Brock ran in '88 were the ex'87 JPS M3's of Frank Gardener. Jim Richards, David Parsons and Neil Crompton raced the second Mobil M3.
