  1. Yep, thinking of getting this. And various other E39 540s that are for sale on trademe, along with some gorgeous E38s, and some E28 have popped too. Not to mention the E28 M5 and E30 M3 that are on trademe too.

But in all seriousness, the above mentioned 330ci seems like a looked after specimen and it's black with sunroof!

  2. G'day everyone,

The ABS light has illuminated on the dash, the car is a 1987 E28. The light only comes on when I start driving forward. But stays off during start and idle. With the help of another forum member, we cleaned the front left wheel speed sensor but the right sensor won't come off and seems to be permanently stuck. Any tips of getting this sensor off?

From what I have read online, the plan is to take all four sensors offline and then attach them back in one by one and see when the light comes to diagnose the faulty one. And or, with the help of a voltmeter test the resistance of each sensor and the one that gives the erratic reading would most likely be the faulty one.

Also, is it possible with the use of the diagnostic tool for the E28 to find the fault?

Anyone had this issue before and tips as to what did you do to to rectify?

    Thanks

  3. Any other suggestions? Budget ideally around $5-7k, can go more if it's worthwhile.

E30 coupe? When I was hunting around for a BMW, I saw a gorgeous black E30 325i convertible with tan leather and manual for $7k and it looked absolutely mint! I was just a little late in contacting the buyer but I would love to have one in the garage.

  4. at this price you would be buying it as a very long term investment to make any sort of worthwhile return on your money.

IMO, If a person is buying this as an investment at 175k I think it's a bad idea. If I had 150k-200k and I wanted to invest in cars especially, I would start at E87 1M coupe/E28/E34/E39 M5 /E46 M3 CSL.

  5. Either negotiate a free warranty or a discount on the price, as the dealers don't pay full price for the warranty you may be able to get more value out of that.

The cars are pretty reliable but when things break the bill can easily be over $1k.

Thanks Matt, will keep that in mind. Car is still getting complied so haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

  6. G'day everyone,

We are looking at the following car on trademe. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1035531612.htm

What are the things to watch out for in these cars? This one has the I-drive system. Are they reliable? I have read to stay away from the 2.0 Engines (320i) therefore looking at the 325i. Also, I will be doing a PPI check with BM workshop or Botany Motor Works before committing to the sale.

    Worth getting a mechanical warranty?

    Thanks
