Just bumping this. Will expect any reasonable offers. I stuck this on trademe, and 2 days later the ruff running got worse. Typical !! so at the moment its sitting in onehunga and can only really be driven short distances as its lacking power and misfiring.. I'm not really needing to spend anymore on this so im open to offers.

Cheers, I've got a scanner but it's only a cheap one, ive got afew spare coils lying about so will swap some over, think I'll check the state of the valve cover aswell I've got the bonus of not needing it on the road just now so can slowly tackle some jobs. Cheers for the advice.

Hello I changed the oil and plugs today and noticed the old plugs were pretty oily. I have also had a ruff running issue which has got gradually worse. the code reader says multiple misfires and also a MAF code. I'm going to strip and clean the MAF but do you think the valve cover gasket needs done im guessing so due to the oily plugs? im going to sell the car but wont sell it until i know its running right. Any other reason the plugs could be oily? it runs great and I use it as my daily just need to let it run then switch on and off to get it running right. when its misfiring Ive got no power. Any advice appreciated.,

New Air Con belt now fitted over the weekend and also a new TSTAT as my overheating issue returned. Seems fine now but time will tell. Also stupid MSport badge removed from the boot. I quite like the one on the grill. REGO update til August 17.

Hello The time has come to sell the BMW due to a company car arriving soon. 2003 525I Msport E39 With 172,000km (Used daily so will increase) WOF 11/17 (Just needed a tire to pass the WOF) REGO 02/17 (But will stick on another 6 months) Bodywork could use a bit of a tidy up, crack in rear bumper and some clearcoat coming off a corner in the roof. Interior is in good condition with no rips. Mechanically it runs well. Slight ruff idle on cold start up for about 15 seconds then clears and runs fine, its always done this and never bothered me. Back windows don't work but I never sit in the back so yet again never bothered me. Since I've had It I've replaced the clutch fan / plugs / serpentine belt and pulley. AC belt needs fitted as both belts came off when the pulley disintegrated. Dave I will get that replacement belt to you soon, sorry for the delay. Fan shroud could be done with being replaced as I snapped a bit when changing the belts, so resovior bottle is held in place with a cable tie. easy job though. Also it tells me to check brake lights but there's nothing wrong with them. Its an automatic and changes nice and smooth. I've also fitted an audiovox adapter to the stereo so its now Bluetooth enabled and handsfree calling. If your interested or want more info just give me a shout think I've covered everything. Looking for about $4500 for it. Cheers

Up and running again thanks to a new belt from Dave and a new idler pulley from the dealer. My one was totally destroyed, both belts were intact suprisingly enough and no other damage so got away lightly I think. cheers for the advise and help. craig.

Hello So today my 525 e39 2003 sh*t itself, Battery light came on and power steering died. Pulled over and checked and the belts are off and there is something sitting at the bottom of the engine. Idler pulley maybe? Never overheated as I had only started my journey and managed to pull over pretty quick. its been making weird noises lately so my fault i know for not maintaining but just never have the time. So I phoned various places, botany motor worx included and they are all flat out until next week. The car is sitting in panmure just now and I plan to revisit tomorrow to properly take a look/fix, couldn't today as work got in the way. I'm a good enough home mechanic so will attempt the repairs myself. So i suspect a new serpentine belt and idler pulley, if this is the case where can I get these parts from on a Saturday?, did a trade me search and found them but there all either shipping from Australia or no pickup is allowed. I google searched but cant find anywhere where i can just go in and get these off the shelf. Its Times like these I wish I was back in Scotland as getting parts is so easy but the weather is sh*t so new Zealand wins there. Any advise will be much appreciated just now. Cheers

To be fair I'm not throwing parts and money at it, everything pointed to the fan clutch and it failed every test. Was a cheap and easy fix. If it keeps playing up I will take it to Glenn but i don't have the luxury of being able to leave the car with him so it's not as easy.

Thanks for all the good advise. I decided to change the fan clutch this morning and results look promising so far. Took it for a drive up to temp and sat idle temp went up but then came down by itself only turning the ac on hot would help before but only briefly. Also I can actually hear the fan kicking in which I couldn't before. Notice now the Front aux fan does not work so that's the next task. cheers.

sorrry glen I missed that, Let me know and I will give you a call cheers

Cheers zero. If it was the water pump would this only cause an issue when idle? or if the pump was gone would this be a constant issue even when moving. as it behaves fine when im moving but moving is not something i do alot during the daily commute. Yip its holding water fine.

Well the issue has returned. Started to overheat again last night on the way home. caught it in plenty of time so never went passed the 3/4 mark. I watch the temp reading like a hawk and when im getting close to 114 pull over. Only seems to be an issue when im stuck in traffic, both top and bottom rad hoses were hot. Let it cool for a bit and then drove home with heater on full blast and full heat and never rose above 100. Bled the system again this morning and car drove to work perfect not rising above 94. im almost done with it as need something reliable as I drive alot for work and don't really have the cash for a mechanics repair bill on it right now. If the head gasket was gone would it overheat all the time? Thanks for any advise again.
