    insurance pay out?

Agreed value policy with Tower. Until now I was neutral towards them, at best. We use them for house, contents, and both cars. They can be annoying as anything, and disorganized, and such. They paid out without fuss here. Zero hassle, and whilst their admin department is horrible, their claims department was super helpful and effective.

  2. Life's been busy lately, and I haven't had much occasion to post here, or even read much. Alas, fate intervened about a week and a half ago, on the day there was massive massive rain up here. Was driving off of Dairy Flat Highway, and during a minute period the rain got so thick I couldn't see. Thought something was in front of the car, swerved to not hit something, hit something else instead. There was a high curb and wall next to it. The wall the car might have survived, but the curb killed it... Damaged everything between the wheel and the engine, and from that oil leak, even the bottom end of the engine got it too.

EDIT: That could be the transmission pan that got it, unclear. I didn't climb under to look.

Have you ended up doing anything @Gabe79

Have a read over this thread:

E53 is a great vehicle  - Greg's description of it being like a high-riding E38 is probably not far wrong. BUT like lots of old BMWs they can be a money pit so PPI, MBI are a must unless you'll be doing the work yourself. If you're going to get one, either buy one you really like and look after it ($$), or (eek) treat it as disposable ?

Service history is highly desirable to see if some muppet like me has spent all the $$ sorting things out - so you don't have to.

Thanks for the input Peter. I haven't done anything here. My parents have been using my e39, and aside from not being able to sell it because it's actively in use... they've done me the favour of reducing its resale value on me. :)  (it has a lot more scrapes and bumps than it did when they arrived 3 months ago, and I have a frankenbumper now thanks to my dad being used to driving a 4runner back home...)

We've had some family stuff happening, that makes us think our 2nd car should really really have 7 seats. We're likely going the way of a Highlander, or an Outlander at this stage. I expect to be listing my e39 imminently, warts and all.

    Thanks. its that time again.

I just wondering who people have insurance with and rough yearly premium.

Also I know I can't replace my car closest would be 540i manual. Haven't seen what a 89 530i m30 b30 Manual . Recaro Oem sports seats. Sunroof. 540 bumbers side skirts colour matched. 16inch basketweaves new slightly lower springs. Stut braces etc Well maintained and good condition for age all round.

I can't find anything for sale that compares apart from the 540i in NZ.

I had at 5k but I know couldn't replace for that if at all as it is UK Import.

Call around and ask for an agreed value quote?

My insurance company, Tower, will insure my e39 for up to $10k for example, without quibble. With quibble/valuation, they'd go higher even.

EDIT: Search the thread about Swann insurance too, they might be a good one to call.

    EDIT2: Check this thread out:

EDIT3: Misread your OP. Sorry, no clue. (if that wasn't obvious!)

... which is what you want.

My concern is a repeat of what I encountered where a cracked (visible crack, light shines through like...) valve cover was missed, but I got a note that my steering wheel was the wrong kind for my car. (It isn't, Msport wheel, just not the round kind PFL)

Yeah, also interested in what happened, they're one of the few places I recommend.

Maybe I am being unfair. I knew a lot less about cars then, specially about this specific car... In addition to the missed valve cover, I was advised the car was in reasonable condition for its age, and it wouldn't be quite as bad as it seemed (this has not panned out...). Also, given I was a complete newbie, I felt there was a lack of explanation as to what the items in the list were. I was under the impression I was paying for expertise and for a report which would make sense to me, I got a report that would make sense to me today, and didn't serve me very well then. Does this make sense?

Totally agree, as long as the rotors are not made out of chocolate then for a daily driver they are pretty much equal so price would be the only factory. I do tend to always go for a known brand name - i.e. TRW, Brembo, etc. just to avoid the possibility of getting the chocolate variety.

It looks like I had it around the wrong way, Brembo bought the controlling share of a Chinese brake maker, to supply into the Chinese market and in particular the Western manufacturers no building their cars in China.

80,000 out of a set of pads is pretty good going. I wish my missus was a gentle on the pedals as that!!

Taking the above to be basically correct... Repco trade discount rotors cost very near the same as Mick's Garage, give or take $25NZD. If you have access to a trade account, that is...

EDIT: For Mintex this was true. For Brembo the gap was a bit larger, but if you get hit with duties at import time... local prices can compete.

just had a look but their prices are not cheaper than FCP for filters, and they dont have in stock the gaskets I need.

eg: mann oil filter - 6.99USD at FCP which is 10 NZD

same filter is 18.68 NZD on micks, 15 NZD after the 20% off

Rotors man, that's the ticket. :) The benefit really is the shipping, so it has to be big heavy things FCP/DHL charge 3 limbs for.
