  1. Hey Michael The guys at Hartley engines and motorsport. Nelson is the CNC guru, he's putting a lot of time and effort into making some off the self intakes for this motor as he wanting to start selling them on a big scale, check out their F.B page if you want to see one made up. Bloody bootyful piece of work.
  2. Hey Team Managed to get block back from the engineers today so will start putting the engine back together as soon i have time during the weekends when i find some time. While at the engineers he was telling me about his own little project that he's currently working on with all his 100 other jobs. A Toyota V12 which he is making some awesome CNC ITB for it! So my project will be done when he gets to it hopefully not too long Here's a few pics of the two v12 blocks next to each other, I'm quite surprised how well designed the bmw v12 is, so compact and smaller but yet bigger in displacement than the toyota v12. and a couple pics of the heads, Figuring out whether we can do a regind for the cams or to make them from scratch.
  3. I can't wait there either 0-60msport! especially an angry sounding v12 Hey EuroV8 i hadn't thought of that but now you mention it. As i will be getting the shop that is taking care of the electrical side to mount the engine in, I'll get him to save the design in some sort of form and put it on here for any1 else that would like to do the same swap.
  4. Haha aw shucks thanks EURO V8 i don't even know there was such a poll thing going on. Making me blush But thanks to everyone that is liking and following this build. Glad to share it with you guys! O one more thing do i win or get a prize for any of this polling stuff?
  5. Hey Team Just another small update. Did some more cleaning, got the main end caps and bolts cleaned, timing chain, gave the bearings a good wipe and took all the piston rings off. Once i get the block back from engineers should be good to start putting things back together minus the heads though.
  6. Haha imagine the price on one of those! what did you put the v10 in? do you a a video of it running? love the sound of the v10 in the video that i shared with the custom ITB setup. And considering it has 500hp from factory that's not bad at all.
  7. Thanks Crunchy. I would have love to have done the v10 swap into this car though, that would have been awesome.
  8. So got a very nice surprise today. Had both the powder coater and machine shop call saying all the parts are ready for pick up. Sorry about the bad picture as they were taken with the parts in the boot. Block all nice and clean now, broken bolts taken out and no need for a resurface as it was straight as. Flywheel resurfaced and lighten, now down to 10.4kgs I should have weighed it before hand but say it must be atleast 3-4kgs taken off. and Rocker covers all coated gloss white and underside unpainted. Getting closer to getting this thing put back together. Will be taken the block to the engineers later this week to get measurements to help with fitment for the ITB setup.
  9. It certainly is Olaf best thing about it is that the pump is integrated into the sump itself so no need for scavenge lines. Hi Graham yes it is a Dailey kit not the cheapest but certainly one of the best sumps you could get.
  10. And here it is team! One awesome piece of machinery dry sump system. Stage 4 pump and pan is so light - only 4cm deep! Just looks so shiny I'm like a kid in a candy store
  11. Have an awesome surprise for you guys hold onto your seats!
  12. Hey Nathan i used some degreaser concentrate mixed with warm water, those green scotch brite pads and a nylon brush. Once i got it clean as possible i dried it with the compressor gun and sprayed with a coat of crc. really please how well they came up.
  13. Just had a quick read of his build there Dave and i feel his pain. Took me 3 1/2 hours for the pistons but didn't polish them up. It is a lot of parts Michael I can't explain it but i enjoy the cleaning. Having a sense of achievement once you look back and can say i did all this work myself instead of paying someone
  14. Hey everyone Managed to get some time this afternoon to get some more cleaning done. A lot of elbow grease to get them pistons looking shiny. By the last piston i had managed to get it cleaned in 15mins compared to my 1st one which i think took 45mins. Gave the crank a light scrub and the end caps. Just have the main bearing caps left to do.
  15. Just a small update, got these back from an engineering mate that had the covers sand blasted for me at his work. Off to the powder coaters tomorrow.
  16. Awesome thanks Andrew for the tip on the white. I think the consensus for the cover is to keep it unpainted.
  17. so just checked and can confirm that the valve covers are steel as tried the old magnet test and it stuck. My one more question to you all, is it fine to leave the underside unpainted? even though there is oil splashed around so is moisture and heat that may cause rust to appear over time. Any feed back appreciated.
  18. Thanks Treone i've seen the video for that beast bloody fly's for a X5. I still have to double check what the valve cover is made out of, but regards of metal do i need to put some sort of paint on the underside at all? Thanks for all the feed back.
  19. Hey question for you CRUNCHY or anyone else that could help. Is it safe to powder coat the underside of the rocker cover? I noticed when scrubbing excess oil off it, i think it had a light coat of black paint on it. So know it has paint from factory but not sure if powder coating it the right stuff for the underside. Anyone with experience in this keen to shed some light please
  20. Thanks for the heads up CRUNCHY will look into it. As for e85 i'm sure the latest standalone ecu would be able to be tuned for it if that's what you meant ZERO? and it's just going to be my daily driver nothing crazy plus we don't have e85 down this way. Have heard E85 pulls in more moisture quicker so you have a short self life for this fuel which could be a problem for engine parts. I could be wrong on this though.
  21. Just a little update as i managed to grid the bolt that was giving me grief off, got the crank and last piston out and cleaned some other bits. Block is off to get acid dipped cleaned next week. I Will also look at getting the rocker cover powder coated at some point. Any suggestions for a colour? i was thinking white. ZERO i'm looking at either using a Link or Haltec Ecu at the moment and i won't need to run e85 as the compression on this motor is only 10:1.
  22. Hey CRUNCHY yeah i figured if people have put v10 into the e46 a narrower v12 shouldn't be an issue. as for the discussion about the DOHC head on the v12 the Mclaren F1 engine was basicly two m3 motors bolted to one crank. The m5X head swap is doable but at what cost, here's a guy that has done it.
  23. Hey ZERO i'm not sure what m62 manifolds look like but the m73 v12 ones are a 3 into 1 then with 2 sets into another one and are a log style. haha GLENN it does look abit like guts. Thanks Richard you also have a great name too as for the exhaust pictured the are a factory s85 v10 manifold so won't be putting them on my motor but would make something similar if space was an issue.
  24. Thanks EUROHO glad to share this build with like minded people and YES! that v10 has a gorgeous sound.
  25. Hi Michael i'd say it would be just some custom engine mounts really just like any other swap and yes the sump does need to be modified. This is why i have gone with the dry sump setup, if you have a look at the pictures i posted of the sump that i am getting, it makes for so much more room for sump clearance as there pretty much is no sump. So in saying that Nathan this will allow me to mount the motor as low as possible which i'm hoping to give me a bit more room to make some decent exhaust headers. worst case make something similar to the s85 v10 manifolds
