  1. For anyone thinking of installing catless Downpipes, here’s a fairly good guide.
    https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104333&fbclid=IwAR0Ui5TMQqyQQ3t4mEjUFL3kJTCQS_2Bme1JFMHf2jH_XYCyPoTQb6IUv4M

Mine just arrived, so weather permitting I’ll be installing (or at least trying too) this weekend.
Anybody in Wellington/Kapiti who would like to offer a hand would be much appreciated 👍🏼👌🏼🤔😂 there will be some nice craft ale in it for you 🍺 🍻

  2. I also have the orange MHD WiFi adapter and it works perfectly with iOS.
I use the MHD app. Just have to pay for licenses and flasher.
my advice would be to make sure your car is on the battery charger for a good long while before starting to write any maps.
The first time I tried to write a map onto the DME, my battery wasn’t charged enough and the car freaked out.
Unable to write the map and had already wiped the oem map. Windshield wipers going crazy, every warning light flash. Couldn’t start the car.
Tried again once the battery had fully charged. No issues.

  3. WTB

    E9x review mirror glass.

BMW only sell this as a complete unit at over $2k so I would really like to just replace the glass it’s self.

mine was cracked when I purchased the car but since we have started getting cold mornings, it has decided to completely detach itself from the rear view and smashed.

Did this couple weeks back, great mod!!

Was varying torque figures, just used long spanners and breaker bar with 1/2 inch drive and did things up tight.

Be sure to go straight to alignment and not to far away if you are DIYing.

Yeah I’ve just finished installing coilovers front and back and the M3 arm up front. None of the wheels are now facing forward 🤦‍♂️
Just called the alignment shop and they’ve already closed. I’ll have to wait till next weekend now. 🤞🏼

Seem to remember that aluminum lug nuts are a no-no in NZ. Maybe check that out before you buy that kit ?

    Cheers...

Thanks for point that out, I’ve found a kit with hardened steel studs which seems much better quality.

Finally got round to fitting the M3 lower control arms. Didn't do the upper arms as it seems that they don't really change the dynamics at all, just provide an upgrade for the oil lubricated inner bush. I'll leave those until I either need them (currently not leaking) or get bored :)

Went for a lap over my test track this afternoon, and as there was hardly any other traffic on the road I could push on in a spirited manner. In layman's terms what I noticed was that the feeling of imminent understeer has gone. Previously, going into a tightish left hand corner with a bit of speed on, I felt that the car was waiting for a chance to get into the other lane. Likewise, when turning right it seemed ready to head for the fence if I wasn't paying enough attention.

Now, with the lower arms installed, even though the camber change is minimal, I no longer live in fear of understeer when going into corners at a few more kph than would be considered prudent . Driving is more enjoyable when you know that your car has the handling to keep you safe on the road when having fun :) .

So big thanks to to you Herb for advising me to get the M3 LCA's 👍

    Cheers...

    Hey Jon,

Did you change to the M3 Tension arms? I’ve just installed mine as well as the M3 LCA and I can visually see the negative camber in the front. (I’m yet to have an alignment so hopefully some of that will be removed).

  7. Is it possible to pass certification with wheel stud conversion?
The reason I ask is I have just fitted some coilovers and although the tyre clears, it’s very tight and I would prefer to add a 10mm spacer so I get that “hella flush” fitment 😁. The issue I can see is most spacers of 10mm and under don’t have a centre lip to sit the wheel on while putting the nuts on.
My plan would be to buy a decent quality stud conversion kit, paired with a 10mm spacer (or even maybe just a 5mm) as I have to get a cert for the coilovers (and maybe the M3 control arm/tension arms?)

trying to squeeze as much as possible into the one certification. I don’t really understand the whole process but seems majorly over the top, expensive and unnecessary complicated.

Did you get this fitted. I've been looking into the VRSF one but the shipping is ludicrous from America. Where did you source this from , was shipping reasonable? If you got it in I'm keen to see any results you can share (particularly wastegate duty cycle as I'd like to understand how much pressure drop some of these after market ICs are introducing).

    Hey Harry,

Yes I managed to get this installed, turned out the rubber seal on the hot side was slightly baggy and was catching. Overall a fairly straight forward install.
I got this from FCP Euro and deliver was fairly reasonable.

if you go on the CSF website there is loads of detail regarding the R&D for this too.

I went with the full 11 piece kit. The rear parts are definately lighter and the bushes have less movement. I did the rear first and there was an improvement in the way the rear felt. That said the M3 front conversion is quite an improvement mid corner understeer is all but eliminated.

    Hi Herbmiester

Did you have any issues with tyre rubbing against locking collar of the coilovers? I have connection and I can only assume that it’s because of the extra negative camber gained from the M3 Control Arm.

I will be raising the front a bit more but I didn’t expect to have this issue.

  10. I’m currently installing the front coilovers and I’m struggling to tighten the top strut nut.

Looks like I need a 22mm strut nut socket, would anyone have one I could borrow for a couple of days for know anywhere in NZ I could get one? I can only find them in the US. Don’t really want to wait 😂
