Hi Mods - hopefully you are still doing these.

I'm converting a manual steering rack on an 86 E30 to a power steering using an E46 power steering rack, so need a steering shaft to suit.

The steering wheel end is a 16mm diameter spline with 28 teeth. The other end is an E46 rack part number 7852-974-644.

The existing shaft is a long 340mm long, and the replacement needs to be approximately 240mm long.

Let me know if this is something you can help with.

    Cheers

Hi mate pm me and we can discuss. I don’t seem to be getting notifications on this thread for some reason.

I'm running the Sachs m20 clutch in mine and it's great for daily use.

Haven't had any issues with the axles on my swap, but aside from a few track days it's seen mostly daily use (though now it's more of a Sunday driver).

I have a clio booster, and after testing someone else's e30 with an e90 one, I want to swap mine.

Def go the e90 booster over the clio one. #1 easier to find (and remove from donor) and #2 better booster feel.

  5. Yes, this not financially viable but I have other reasons to ask.

Current car = 2013 118i DCT. Want to swap it to N55 / DCT.

After a lot of research I've landed on getting either a complete wreck (which is a pain because I can't store it) or get a complete N55 / DCT / ECU / TCU from a running wreck.
I can handle the install, cooling, power steering etc and plugging in but is there any other wiring / coding to consider if it's a complete drop out and drop in swap?

    Thanks

  6. If anyone has any of the following please reach out:

    • S65 complete or rebuildable
    • S85 complete or rebuildable
    • E9x M3 damaged with drivetrain - unfortunately missed out on the one at Manheim late last year :(

I'm also looking overseas if anyone has any recommendations of places to check (not CoPart).

  7. These have been flying out the door for locals in NZ and as far away as Poland, Indonesia and Portugal. Go figure.
Anywho, I have bulk stock of E46 versions ready to go for those who have decided to LS, 2JZ or turbo their E46's :)

All come with installation instructions, exchange form and a quality product that looks OEM and uses only OEM parts.

Note - E36 joints are getting harder to find and E30 joints are near on impossible without #bmwtax so will only be offering those on exchange basis.

  8. Been offered a very tidy and worked E91 335i. Great spec, ticks all the boxes except it is the 6HP auto box.  I've done a lot of research into the 8HP box with the likes of Turbolamik etc but as it's going into a model that had the DCT box post 2011 (?) I wonder what else is required to 'factory swap' it - ie. no aftermarket parts, all OEM.

6 speed ZF GA6HP19Z box in the car currently.

I'm fine to get the parts and do the wrench work, the TCU / electronics are the hard part for me

The next issue I ran into was the steering linkage. Having initially hooked up my stock one with the CMP coupler, there looked to be plenty of clearance... until I turned the wheel and the bolt holding the coupling to the main shaft started hitting on the headers.

They claim that the clearance is there but might become a problem if your engine mounts are worn. Mine are barely 12k km's old and the bolt is not even close to clearing so I doubt it'd be any better with brand new engine mounts.

Luckily, I anticipated this being a potential issue or that the clearance would be tight at the very least so I pre-emptively ordered a slim linkage from @modz. Great bit of kit, arrived quickly and well packaged with handy instructions, would definitely recommend. Glad I had it on hand by the time the headers came back from the shop so it didn't hold me up.

Compared to the stock linkage the ends are clocked slightly differently so all I had to do was reposition the plastic alignment sleeve at the steering rack end. It does end up being slightly shorter than stock so the steering column does extend out of the firewall a bit further. Mine seems to have a lot of play in the column so might look to replace some bushes or the whole column at some stage.

Heaps of clearance now so I'm happy as Larry.

Great to see it on the car @Vass- I rarely get to see the finished product in place as they go all over the world.  Very tidy build, well done!

  10. Looking for a new project back in the BMW world. Some options -

    - E46 M3 rolling body (not the $8k wreck on trademe...) - rego on hold.

    - E92 M3 - write off with engine - no rego needed

    - E31 840ci - non runner / high kms / body work ok as long as it has rego on hold.  No 850ci's please.

I'm not looking for running mint cars.

Appreciate these aren't generally sitting around but if anyone has leads let me know

  11. Expanding from e30 joints to now cover e36, e46, z3, z4 etc.

These are a really nice super slim (20mm wide) unit which has BMW OEM ends grafted on as shown and have a 40mm collapsible section.

Great for turbo swaps, larger manifolds, engine swaps, v8’s etc.

    $150 each plus shipping.

All are built to order to ensure the length and ends are 100% match.

As with all brake and steering items these are used at your risk.

PM me to discuss your requirements
