  1. From Japan it is the ‘model year’ which is literally the month and year manufactured. They can’t control when a car is registered so for safety reasons that’s the date used.
  2. I can sell you a shortened linkage or swap you your one for mine already done pm me if keen
  3. For those interested in mounting aftermarket seats / brackets / rails, I've just spoken to LVVTA directly. There is no 'correct place' to mount the seatbelt anchorage on the trans tunnel, however it must be accessible at all positions forward and aft (so measure using the seat's mid point) and sit approximately at hip level. See section 2.10(7) below on page 40. https://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/standards/LVVTA_STD_Seatbelts_& Seatbelt_Anchorages.pdf
  4. Per title I'm hunting an e36 328i manual or M3 driveshaft. Front section only needed, but will take whole unit. Failing that, where's good to have a driveshaft lengthened in Auckland? Cheers
  5. Sorted. FWIW you can hire these and many other Euro-specific tools from AllEuroParts https://www.alleuroparts.co.nz/contact-us great team to deal with.

    [ E30 ] VERSION 2

Awesome build, well done on the award very much deserved! Those wheels are spot on.
  7. The head bolts instructions I had stated 40NM (not ft/lb) so just followed that
  8. I am completing it and yes it will likely be for sale once completed. Watch this space

    Time serts?

I made a plate like this at work and used it to ensure my holes were straight. Alternatively use a drill press but that means having a bare block with flat base - which I didn’t have.

    Time serts?

Really? I don’t think so. Timeserts grip better and are a better design than helicoils (having done both). I wouldn’t hesitate to use timeserts again. Super easy
  11. If anyone has one of these jigs including the vanos alignment tool (particularly parts 1 and 2 in the pic) I'd be very grateful to borrow or rent it to finish up my engine this week. Please PM me if you have anything. Happy to cover tracked shipping to / from if outside Auckland. Thanks in advance
  12. Once the body is sold I'll sell it. Everything except pistons and crank has been rebuilt or replaced. Complete long block with E34 sump, pickup, A/C, all new belts and pulleys, starter motor, power steer pump, engine loom etc for $2500. Or it can come in the body with brand new M5 engine mounts and E36 arms as a package for $5,200.
  13. Unfortunately it looks like I'm unable to complete my project due to a job move overseas next year. As it sits I'm taking interest on the rolling body first. Buyer will then have first dibs on all parts from there on. Everything else will be parted out. The car is tidy overall and has had the majority of rust work cut out. Spare panels are provided to repair - as pictured in my build thread. Rolling body includes: Reg on hold Power front windows Pop out rear windows No Sunroof (slick top) Complete body as pictured 14" basketweaves Lowered springs all round All interior except carpet and front seats Spare boot lining pieces Was a full running / driving car before pulling the engine out Even had A/C (parts included) Doesn't include: Engine, box Steering rack Front Seats Front carpet Not in a huge rush to sell and will continue to be worked on Car does have M54B30 engine and gearbox in it at the moment which will be removed before sale.
  14. @Cammsport looks like you cut and welded the manifolds to fit? And to confirm the pics of them wrapped are around the opposite way vs how they fit on the engine? Thanks
  15. Great looking car! Thanks for the pics on the underbonnet and fuel gasket - both on my list too
  16. Engine in the hole! 45 mins was all it took to go from flying engine to bolted in. Super easy in the end. Popped the inlet manifold on to check how good it looked. Pretty happy. Unfortunately after these pics were taken I had zero time on the car for 8 weeks due to work commitments. It hurt!
  17. Don't think so. I know where it is now, and it's not in a great way sadly. Definitely no longer show car worthy Rumour has it the white Evo 6 was stolen and never recovered also.
  18. While I'm prepping the next updates, here are a couple of the other cars I've built. Both of these were from bare (stripped) shells, full respays in and out, new interiors and engine rebuilds down to the last nut and bolt. Each took 2 years. The black Evo 3 ran high 10's at 200kph and scared the crap out of me on a regular basis. Sold back in 2010. Probably should've kept the white one, only 26,000 km and one of 5 RHD sunroof Evo 6's in Australasia. Sold back in 2015.
  19. I’ll create a separate thread for battling this one when it’s happening, rather than clogging up this thread
  20. Cheers mate, yeah I do too. Drives me nuts working on grubby stuff
  21. Exhaust Headers Again those with a keen eye will have noticed the switch to M52 headers. These bolt straight up, and had 2 significant advantages: I had a pair I didn't have a pair of M54 ones... But in all seriousness, they are a much nicer fitment in terms of design and clearance.
  22. Hey Look - a Flying Engine!
  23. Engine + Box After the earlier TIme Sert post, I decided I was close enough to getting it all back in the engine bay. Half a day later getting the block off the stand, flywheel on, gearbox aligned and on meant it was ready. I made the call to finish the head assembly in the car (cams, lifters etc) simply due to time.
  24. Brake Booster Good news! Finally scored a Renault Clio Mk2 brake booster, which is making its way over from the UK. Cheap at $25 GBP for the unit. The old booster was perfectly fine except for not fitting with the new engine manifold. Once the Clio one is fitted I'll update this post with more pics, and sell the old one.
