That's the issue. Not all cars are equipped to run ethanol-included fuels. And (sadly) the masses lack the automotive education to know this, or whether their car is suitable or not. They 'know' higher octane is 'better', are sold on the benefits of clean-running expounded by the fuel manufacturers, and so use it. Then their fuel system eats itself because it's made of the wrong stuff, and they get a big bill (or worse).

Nothing wrong with ethanol. Or E85. Just so long as it is used appropriately.

Ah well if someone dosent know what fuel they are putting in their car and if its compatible or not, then thats their problem. Gull even has stickers next to their force 10 saying not compatible with all vehicles and to check if compatible or not.

what volume dished Pistons do I need to order?

yeah alright m8 let me pick a random number out of a hat. might need to know some things first.

    stroke

    rod length

    combustion chamber size

    heat gasket thickness

    bore size

You said something about a S50 earlier but you haven't confirmed that either. Even then you could be using different rods or oversize pistons etc.

What dish size did you calculate?

  3. So after stripping 3rd gear in the getrag 240 at taupo at dual sprints earlier this year I picked up a getrag 260 from will on here.

It is a older one and so does not have the mounts for the newer style shifter carrier / arm thing. I made up some brackets to hold it but in the end I didnt like it and so I decided to mount the shifter AKG styles - but made my own.

It takes the original shift lever and ball cup. I plan on putting a new ball cup in it and changing to the Z3 shifter and then make a shift linkage to suit. If I did it again I'd do it a bit differently but this is something I made up as I went and made last night.

It bolts up from underneath the car, I didnt like how the AKG one mounted.

why's that, Troy?  is it to do with variability of friction between tyre and roller, or something else?

Depend how tightly each car is strapped down, tyre pressures, tyre compound, tyre width, tyre deflection as the suspension works and the car squats - all changes the friction. If you're doing multiple back to back runs of the same car the tyres heat up as well.

There is so many variables on a roller dyno that cannot be accounted for that makes them useless for doing comparisons even on the same car

will be very interesting to see a series of cars that started out all the same but have had different walks of life over the past 15 years. would be good to log not only the power output put also SMG or normal manual, and also diff ratio if there was variations by year. maybe even log the rear wheel and/or tyre size as well. Ron (3pedals) may have some other useful data inputs also worth recording.

Im in the neighbourhood, heading back to Wellington on Saturday, so may pop in for a nosey at the early sessions.

Roller dyno though? Too many variables to make any real conclusion unless the numbers are way different, but if you're trying to differentiate 10-20hp then theres no point on a roller.

I also want to go sideways and smoke tyre's lol, i need the rush again, its wearing thin with the power i have now

What ever floats your boat and budget Lol. I'm bit of a horse power freak my self but there is a point in a car where it just becomes useless and being bragging rights having 1000+ hp. I'd rather have that sort of power in a jet boat where it's actually useable.

I looked at ways to get around this when I was preparing to do a very special engine build, however I couldn't find a manufacturer that built buckets for puks in the same diameter as the BMW lifters... then I became a grand father and couldn't be f**ked any more. Most performance built engines use more positive valve systems that don't rely on hydraulics... just look at the Ducati desmo system. My interests have changed over the last few years.... anyone want to talk about solar :P

I believe steve murch had sourced some shims for the hydraulic lifters to take up the extra slack.

Solar... Just installed a 500w system on a boat. Also have built a dual axis solar tracker ( keeps panels parallel to sun), currently showing around 30% gains and usable power comes on a lot earlier in the morning and stays longer in the afternoon.

  8. Sounds like a plan, PM me your email address you use for dropbox and I'll add you in, you should be able to upload the flash tool to there as well.

I assume you're pirating a version of ms41 flash tool.... It's cheap, why bother? If people keep doing this the developer won't bother developing other cool software and just keep it to him self.

  9. Bedding in OEM / OEM+ brake pads, really necessary or nah? Been failed on soft brakes and unequal rear braking (100 / 140, 26% difference). Replacing pads all round, cleaned up the guide pins, caliper pistons didn't seem stuck and pushed back in fine, also rebleeding the system.

Anymore suggestions for making sure i dont fail the recheck on brakes?

Go somewhere else that doesn't have a brake tester.

  10. Telling your dickhead thorobred horse to calm the @#$% down, coz the mares next door can survive just fine without him - then watching helplessly as he tries to jump a steel gate and fails.

$$$$$$$$$ Veterinarian after hours callout and ongoing followup treatments $$$$$$$$$

    Q. How do you make a small fortune in horses?

    A. Start with a big one.

    Dog food.
