  1. Yeah, where's the fun in that? I'm a little spoilt and used to the M5's torque. I tried a 335d but the petrol makes a better noise.

First 335i I ever drove was the 335d...i was so damm impressed at it! , but hated the sound of it lol and the salesman wouldn't budge on price.....(car is still on the yard for sale lol 2 years later!!)

Here's a thread about the alternative flashes for the Transmission

    http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22180

TQ, wait till you run ethanol on the 335i....

here's a mate chasing me at hamptons in his e60 m5

  2. buys 335i and drives in D mode?.....should of just bought a 325i lol

Alpina flash is awsome, so much better then the stock one but im usually in manual mode with paddle shifters and DTC on...hardly ever in D mode unless in auckland motorway traffic jams :/ or trying to save fuel

there's an alternative , there's a sport flash that is probably more up your alley..

  3. Where did the charge pipe 'malfunction' by interest? After installing my JB4 I replaced the charge pipe at the same time as it is only a matter of time...

Which map are you running on JB? I was running map 5 for a good month but recently ruined 2 coil packs so back on map 1 for time being, power delivery feels a lot more responsive and smoother (although boost has dropped from 15psi to 13psi) than I ever achieved on map 5

Need to be aware map 5 is constantly "learning" -

I also run the backend flash map in conjunction with the JB4 and don't have any issues....

"Map 5 is designed to be continually adapting particularly focusing on the last three minutes or so of wide open throttle activity. Upon selecting map 5 it will default to "93 octane" levels (approx 14psi peak) and adapt up or down from there. Those running E30 mixtures will see the tuning become more aggressive (higher boost, higher timing, leaner AFR) during subsequent wide open throttle pulls while those running lower octane mixtures such as 91 octane will see the tuning become less aggressive (less boost, less timing, richer AFR) during subsequent wide open throttle pulls. It's important to note the map learning is always active. So should things take a turn for the worse during a run (intercooler outlet temps rising, oil temps rising, increased engine knock, etc) the tuning will respond accordingly"

    JB4 MAPS:

    Map 0: Stock bypass.

Map 1: 13psi. Suggested for most racing applications.

Map 2: 14.5psi. Suggested for those with exhaust and 93 RM2 or higher octane.

Map 3: Progressive meth mapping with flow sensor failsafe. See guide to enable. Meth use isn't supported/suggested without a flow sensor and map 3.

Map 4: Stock map w/ CAN active. Allows full logging and in dash gauges on the stock mapping.

Map 5: Autotuning map. Boost ranges between 12-17psi based on your cars octane, conditions, and modifications. Fully E85 compatible. If using E85 we suggest around 30% to start. Refer to the E85 FAQ for addl info. Resets to 93 octane level adaptions when selected and adjusts itself up or down from there.

Map 6: User defined map generally only used for diagnostics or troubleshooting.

Map 7: Race gas map. 18.5psi peak boost on the G5 ISO. Requires straight 100-104+ RM2 octane unleaded racing fuel. The expensive stuff. We do not suggest using leaded racing fuel. To use this map with E85 requires the BMS E85 back end flash, inline booster fuel pump, and a 40%+ E85 mix, per E85 FAQ.

  4. I wonder if this next generation of engine will be as easily reflashed and lifted in power.

I wont be surprised if the software engineers do some clever security coding to prevent general tuning places with the old generation equipment from re-flashing them to make more power. In theory it would be plausible to expect that so it protects their flagship M3/M4 models stock power output etc.

BMW did that on the N54 when they started selling their PPK kits, the IJE0S firmware on my ECU on my car was encrypted unlike the earlier 2006-2008 versions when it first came out, took the tuners like a year to get the key/crack it

From what I am seeing on the forums , the current m3/m4 ECU seems to be encrypted/locked - there are tuners doing a flash re-writes (take out ECU, send it to them etc - ESS etc (not like the current flashing via the ODB2 port etc) and there are piggyback options eg the JB4

  5. Wasn't that keen on looking at the M2 as it was getting the N55 engine , but with this variant I would assume the M2 gets a "tweaked up" version of the B58, hopefully as much potential as the US tuners are getting on the S55 engine at the moment

  6. Hi guys glad to join the bimmer team

keen to meet up with fellow 335i owners

    love this pocket rocket

    neil

    Welcome!

    Tidy E90! any more shots?

Don't have too much fun with it, I've had mine for about 2 months and left rear tyre is already showing the belt in some places :D

Shopping for new tyres already, at least it's an excuse to ditch the runflats.

    haha!

Good idea , the runflat tires are terrible imo!

Sounds like you need an LSD to even out the tyre wear *LOL*

    :rolleyes::D:PB)B)

  7. BMWs official tune that you can get from the dealers. Team McMillan quoted me $2500 for it.

Looking at the list of mods on your car I don't think it'll be much use to you :D

But I saw some people have found a way to flash it for free on some N55 cars:

    http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31885

I'm not too keen to go for Cobb or JB4 as all that extra power means extra maintenance, but the BMW flash is conservative and enhances the exhaust sound nicely.

Ahh the PPK software - ya its a mild tune for like 30hp which to me is ridiculous for $2500

TBH either tune (cobb/jb4/mhd) OTS (off the shelf maps) maps are conservative and will increase your hp gain by at least 60hp and they're all sub $1k for a lot of features etc

anything higher you would want to start thinking about the cooling side to keep everything in check (eg upgraded FMIC/ downpipes etc) and then the modding bug starts :P

there's a few of us here running the JB4 and the cobb

how much was the alpina coding?

can't remember exactly , would of been doing a few things at the same time as well - best bet is to ring them on Monday and ask

  8. anyone done this to their 135 / e90 n54?

    http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20991

would be keen to get mine done if anyone can do it:)

Been running it for over 2 years now , must do mod for the 6AT N54 imo

    BMworkshop botany did mine

I've heard Botany Motor Works and / or BM Workshop can do this.

Wonder if the people why do this, can also flash the M Performance software? Apparently it's similar procedure, at least for N55 engines.

m performance software> haven't heard about this , got a link on any info?

  9. Meh, my E30 has 732hp when its sitting on the spot idling as well.

got a dyno sheet with results ;) ? (lol guy had it printed in the vid)

Something to aspire to eh Suresh?

Have you touched your turbos yet?

Nah haven't touched the turbo's yet

Aussie workshop doing the RHD conversion on the single turbo kit that I really like (Motiv 750kit) so waiting on that (http://www.motivmotorsport.com/product/motiv-750-single-turbo-kit-bmw-n54/)

new fueling solutions in the works - eg built in eth sensor for auto-tuning based on % with the JB4 , port injection kits etc etc

waiting on a full solution tbh

  10. Thanks for that, was trying to decide who had the cheapest price including shipping and customs. Too bad exhaust pipes and FMIC are too big and heavy, pretty sure those won't be able to avoid customs. Looked at Matt Schnell downpipes, MadDad midpipes and axle back, total was ~US$1,600 which I'm fine with. Added shipping.... US$1000 -.-

I'll continue searching for another 2 months or so then I'll have to settle for my second choice which is an Evo X :/

Funny story...my Active Autowerke order which included the FMIC sailed through customs without getting hit lol

I found it's quite hit and miss attracting duty - also don't get it shipped to the workshop directly - I got a few packages in the end that was being marked commercial instead of personal which was painful getting cleared up in the end

With my large items - eg wheels, exhausts etc

I used kiwishipping.co.nz - most vendors have cheap rates to ship within the USA , gets delivered to the mainfreight depot in California - then sea shipped to Auckland

I heard prices have gone up , but for example - when i shipped my 2x CF sideskirts and 4x apex wheels - shipping was $160 NZ

only downfall instead of airfreight is waiting 3 weeks for the items to arrive...

  11. . Would easily need at least an additional $10-15k in parts and labour.

To get it to FBO status? , probably a lot less then 10K now (even with crappy exchange rate)

Quite a few vendors are doing combo deals - eg http://www.topgearsolutions.com/cobb-power-package-4.html - (not full fbo status - missing exhaust and intake etc)

But that 135i has alot of good mods, just not sure about the pricing

And for a laugh try asking the local dealers for a quote on some BMW performance addons.

haha - so true - i nearly cried out laughing when JC came back for the BMW performance exhaust system - 4K+ NZ (online in the US for 1K US)

  12. No arguments from me there should be no remnants leftover. When i opened it up it was only about 20k kms since the walnut blast and it was pretty black and mucky in there. I didnt take good pics as I was in a hurry to get it done that day and plan to open it up again and do a more thorough job. But here you go have a look how black it is in there!

Am assuming no OCC was installed after the clean?

I really should open mine again to see how it looks since the clean and the OCC was installed - have put around 40K+ since the initial clean

  13. FYI i would avoid doing the walnut blasting. Previous owner did it on my 335 and there are left over remnants all over the engine. And anecdotally the shells can end up plugging the ports in the valve cover. So save some money and DIY with a wire brush, rags and ISO alcohol.

Sounds like the previous walnut job was not done correctly - there should be no remnants left what so ever if done correctly....

Would love to see pics of the intakes via the wirebrush method

    • check to see if factory recall was done on the HPFP
    • wastegate rattle
    • waterpump

also if you buy one - get a walnut blast done on the intakes to clean all the gunk and get a OCC for the car straight away

but best bet is to get a bmw specialist to do a pre-inspection on it
