  1. Notice you have KW Coilovers.

I just bought a 335i which came with them, V2 I think, has adjustable height and damping at least. They're currently a bit low for my liking, hard to get around Auckland without scraping...

Did you set them up yourself or can you recommend someone for this?

Not sure I want to have a go at it myself, might stuff it up and can't really tell what a good setting for damping would be. Want to see if I can get them to a setting that's more suitable for Auckland.

    Hey Matt

Had BMworkshop help me set it up on my car

I had to raise it by 15 mil with my track wheels , and I'm playing with the damping settings based on whether I'm at the track or just back to its normal DD settings

I would recommend going to the default settings on the V2's and then slowly making changes and testing, you will figure out a good balance of what you want

  2. Hi Suresh,

What sort of times are you getting around Hampton with all your mods? How have they changed since you first took it there when it had less/no mods?

Hey - never did hampton downs as stock

my best lap ever @hampton downs was around 1.15 , usual times I get is around the 1.17-1.20 depending on traffic etc

semi slicks made a big difference for me as well as the suspension change

hi bro, can you remember how much were you charged for the alpine TCU flash? I read a lot of articles and could not find anyone is able to do it until I read yours and now I know Ross @bontanyBMworkshop is able to do it?

Best bet is to ring Ross and ask him , I can't remember

  3. I take it you are referring to the older E82 / E88 1-series models, not the newer F20 M135i?

Both the 135i Coupe and Convertible were specced with an auto as standard, if you term the DCT as an auto, so the vast majority of the cars officially brought in and sold NZ new are autos. A quick search shows that there were 5 coupes brought in as manual, but no convertibles.

The N54 (2008-2010) 135i only came with auto or manual correct?

    I think the N55 (2011-2013) 135i came with DCT as a option

  4. Thanks a lot for the info! And the remap was done by Superchips ( red file )which claims the above mentioned gains. I will find out through a dyno. And I do feel some noticeable engine response. I will take some photos of my car on my days off. I have done a few things on my car just for the look:) lol

I'd take that gain with a grain of salt , all the tuners i talked too in NZ apart from Gavin@Hi-Velocity did not impress me with their tuning procedure/tunes/claims

I would take a pre-dyno with your car as stock so you have a baseline that you can compare too once you start modding the car

As I need the ability to change maps based on fuel - this is one of the main reasons I went with a overseas product instead of getting Gavin to do a tune for me

    Welcome.

First thing I would be doing is a LSD. Power is useless if you can't put it down.

    :D

so true and also get rid of the crappy run flats and get some performance tyres

  5. Hi All, I am a new member in this forum and I have just bought my 2008 335i E91 Msports with super low ks 28000k .

I have just remapped the ECU, 42kw, 85nm gains though the remapped. I need some advices from you guys about what some other basic modifications could be done to make it a bit faster:) JB4 is mentioned so many times, can someone explain to me why so many people are using it and where to order and who can get it installed. i am thinking to get a FMIC , any brand to recommend and where to get it and is there a place you guys could recommend to get it installed.

Sorry for throwing so many newbie questions to you guys ! Much appreciated your help! I will post up some photos of my car when the weather is good:)

    Many thanks

Congrats on the buy! Can't wait to see pics :D

It really depends on what you are aiming for with your car ,

Basically you want to get to FBO (full bolt on) (http://blog.modbargains.com/5-ways-to-full-bolt-ons-for-bmw-n54/)

Kinda curious on this remap , what are you using?

  6. Congrats on the purchase! Looks tidy as

Would recommend you get the Alpina TCU flash done on the AT transmission as the stock one was terrible with the paddles

"This flash will make the transmission run smoother, gear change will be more precise and crisp, rev match downshift is unbelievable, rev limiter is increased and overall driveability is increased. You will have a new indicator for gear selection in D mode which display D1, D2, D3 ,D4, D5 and in DS mode you will see S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 and the same for the M mode. This single flash will make the car change gears more refined and crisp. You will no longer feel the lurching when the tranny shifts and it goes through the gears without even the slightest hesitation. It is indeed a must have flash if you own a E9x with a N54 engine..."

  7. Re Exhaust in the meantime disconnect the flapper valve, so both pipes are open. It makes a significant change. That mod plus cats out is enough for most, and people have regretted going more than that

Love my after market exhaust, stock one was way to quiet for my taste

If I was going to do the exhaust again

    • If I could justify the $5K US price tag for the Akrapovic
    • BMW Performance mufflers + pipes sourced locally here

  8. Something doesn't add up here. It sounds to me as if she's denied liability (via her insurance company) and that your insurance company has accepted that position? Could be wrong but that would result in the situation you describe above. It may pay to ask your insurance company exactly that question.

Had a similar issue last year when another tenant in work carpark hit my rear bumper

At that time I was with AA insurance - I managed to find out who hit me/car via the CCTV footage and informed my insurance

When AA rang the company to accept liability - head office of the company denied liability and AA insurance informed me (but I was chasing them everyday)

I then threatened to have the driver charged under the land transport act - leaving a scene of a accident etc - they quickly got back to AA insurance and accepted liability

I also made sure that the panel beater I wanted to work on my car -Precision Autowerk was the one given the job even though AA wanted me to use other panel beaters, think I had more sway as I wasn't at fault

  9. Big Fat sh*t Update.

Got a friend to ring insurance company as I can't atm.

And here's what they have to say:

The car is still at the towing yard. They aren't moving it unless it can be repaired. The Panelbeater is coming back with a quote at some point today.

The vehicle hasn't been listed on the Parts network because the Panelbeater hasn't come back with a 'yes it can be fixed, no it can't be' verdict.

Insurance from Lady behind me is useless - My insurance are only paying out to the amount I'm insured for, even if she did hit me. I'm the one who has to go on a man hunt to get insurance to pay out to me.

f**king blood is boiling, I think I'm hitting the boxing bag at gym tonight! Useless bastards.

That's pretty damm useless from your insurance company especially when you're not at fault - who was it again? - Swann?

  10. I use the E85 gull force pro fuel when doing track days / weekend fun runs :D

    Pros

    • 45+HP and 90+Nm TQ over my 98 map
    • Cooling properties of Ethanol that helps with keeping temps down
    • How angry my car sounds + backfires /flames out of the exhaust :D

    Cons

    • Few places in Auckland to get E85 at the pump (Hampton, Puke, Hillcrest)
    • Bugger all mileage

Don't run it normally for DD as I am lucky to get 300km out of a 60L tank verus my 550km usually on 98

  11. Been running it for close to 2 years in my car at the track sessions or weekend drives - haven't had any issues running it ( I only needed to get a in-line LPFP or replace the factory LPFP with a aftermarket one) to run above E40 map

Love the 45HP+ and 95+Nm TQ it gives me over my 98 map

  12. I saw it was about US 500 somewhere which is a bit ridiculous for a one time job. A group buy would be good but prefer more buyers to lower the cost.

I was thinking a group buy for the walnut blaster would be awesome. ECS sells one for about US 1k.

Love your build too Suresh. Its a beast! Congrats dude

Ya that's the one , around US $500 - I'll try and convince another 335i owner, but he hasn't done the conversion etc yet

    thanks Drew :D

  13. another SGM :D

let me know if you find someone with the subframe bushing tool, I couldn't find anyone here , but I have found online where to buy the tool (keen to find someone else to split the cost of it) , still have the M3 subframe bushings to install :S after doing the M3 suspension conversion

    BOV - it's all personal tbh - I love mine :D
