Has anyone used these? I get sick of cleaning my baskets and this looks like it might help. http://www.brakedustcover.com/

My black cars were dreadful to keep clean, but my red ones shocked me how they showed up every little dirt spot. My Glacier Green hardly shows the dirt, but I still wash it every week. Montreal Blue needed to be washed quite regularly to remain looking good. Let's not even talk about white, that was awful to keep clean. The worst part to me is the wheels - they look great clean, but crap dirty. I've only ever once had a set of chromes - and that was on a '64 Valiant I had in '69 (chrome was 'in' in those days). Not about to repeat that.

I've been noticing the trend around Palmy over the past few years - IMO, the most common BMW on the road in this area is the E36 by a large margin.
-
That's Brilliant!! Thank You. :thumb: Any link to E39 manual, please???? Cheers, Rog

Wasn't it amazing how ugly some of those cars were. As explained - it was all about aerodynamics, but surely more consideration could be given to styling. Backing the Countach was a dag - I thought Jeremy was kidding when he showed it on TG.

Well if you didn't give the other poor suckers a brown-eye while you're driving...

Anyone else watch that prog on TV last night about the world's top 10 sports cars? I found it very interesting. Natch the order was different to my thoughts, but that's unimportant. It was interesting that they rated the Miata as #2, but almost all of the reviewers wouldn't be seen dead in one. Steven McQueen's son was funny about that. Someone at work raised that there were no BMWs in there. Doesn't worry me, I've tended to regard BMWs as more sports sedans/coupes than straight sports cars, although obviously the Z3/4 enter that realm. It was also funny seeing the UK & USA reviewers having opposite ideas about the Stingray. I've driven a Stingray and just loathed it. Mind you, I don't like ANY American cars, so I guess that came into it. In the end, it was all about opinions, which we all have. There can never be a definitive answer, but it is fun seeing what others think and why.

I'm not keen on the spoiler or the stripes. However, it truly doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks about your car. Its your car. Whatever works for you is all that counts.

I'm on my third BMW and have never had people cutting in like you say. Its just you, mate!!
-
Not my favourite look for BMWs, but marginally better than those 'all chrome' grill kits you see on trademe ...
-
Absolutely! No way to crash a car in town like that when driving sensibly.
-
Are you going to put the diesel Toyota in the E30???
-
Hmmmm - car for sale - must sell - need money - no takers - ah, a tree - insurance payout - cool......

Before I came here, I dismissed old BMWs E30 and the like as being too ancient, too boxy, too much trouble etc, even though I enjoyed my brother in law's '83 Alpina before he rolled it (broken tie rod). Since I've been here, I've been enjoying learning about and looking at your cars and its changed my mind. I now have a new appreciation. I'm in awe of some of your mods and think y'all are doing a great job. I'll stick with my E39, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't pick up a project car at some time if the price was right and I had some spare time. (lots, by reading some posts - ) See - even us oldies can have open minds....

Looks bloody nice, mate!

I like the top pic - bumper and all. I think it look very smart indeed. But, since I'm ancient, that means my opinion sucks, so if you want to remain cool - don't do it, mate

I was looking at sections yesterday. The land agent had a Merc 500, with fake europlates. I asked him about it and he said he's never had a problem. I suggested he was rich enough to buy the real thing. He countered that money matters and since no-one (well almost no-one) knows the difference, he'll take paying $80 over $300+ any day.

I've heard some truly beautiful exhaust notes on tuned cars- one that make you just drop whatever you're doing and listen, but the large majority of altered exhausts tend to sound crappy rather than nice. I think if I was to have a doer-upper to play with, I'd use a professional exhaust tuning service to get that sound which I enjoy, rather than think that bigger bore = better sound.

Rear fogs are useful when someone is tailgating you on a twisty road at night. Hit the rear fogs at the same time as the accelerator. They brake, you go. (at least that's the theory). I have used the rear fogs when I've been in Hamilton, but never anywhere else. AFAIK, Hamilton is fog central in the North Island. In dense fog, other cars can be real hard to see, so anything which alerts others to my presence works for me. But I agree - turn the feckers off when not needed!!

Perfectly reasonable post mate. I guess, sooner or later, it will be taken to court and someone, somewhere will have to give a definitive direction. If we have to revert to our std issue, so what - the Europlates only cost $80 - some people spend more than that at a pub for one night's drinking.... Driving with fogs on is supposed to be illegal too - try and find a car which is fitted with fogs and which are NOT turned on at night....very low % from my observations.

Hell yes - that always gets me laughing. I hear some car revving like mad and look up, expecting to see a blur and all it is is a Corolla or something being all show no go.

That's right, *sic - music has a big affect on people's driving. If I'm playing the rock music for my age group (Zep, Tull, Sabbath, Purple, Queen, Heep etc) I do tend to drive more aggressively. If I'm playing softer stuff, I chill out and drive slower. Mind you, I'm never gonna be holding anyone up by slow driving
-
I contend that exhaust note does affect driving. When I'm in a quiet car, (like my present 528) I drive less aggressively, more smoothly etc and tend to just cruise around. I also listen to my stereo more. When I'm in a noisy car, (like my last 325) I tend to want to hear that exhaust roaring, so plant foot faster, drive more aggressively etc. I never used the stereo, preferring to listen to the car noise - beautiful!! We all tend to judge others by ourselves, that's human nature, therefore when I'm buying a car, I pay attention to the exhaust note. If its loud, I assume that the car has been thrashed and pass onto the next one. Quiet exhaust note also has returns in NOT attracting cop attention. Thus I can actually drive faster, quieter and let the cops pick up someone driving slower, but noisier. Works for me. I first learned this when I was riding bikes in the '60s. I had a set of copper straight pipes on my Bonny which would wake the dead at full throttle acceleration. After attracting too much attention (13 tickets in 2 years), I changed to a set of super quiet mufflers and the cops never noticed me - I was still doing the same speeds (as young men everywhere do), but just didn't attract the 'wrong' attention. :thumb: How do you perceive the affects of exhaust note on you?

bravomikewhiskey - you've got a sick mind!! I love it

That was an enjoyable read - thanks. Can you imagine how useless that would be on our roads??
