  1. best to keep everyone informed, i know there are plenty of people out there who want to see this thing back on the road, everyone who has dealt with it so far has been impressed by the quality of the engine conversion. on the road by christmas is the goal and things are on track at the moment got to head down to wanaka for christmas day, and the e30 is the car for the job, it'd be a miserable trip if i had to take the mr2 or the bike.
  2. Your a legend mate, il be in touch when the car has been through repair cert. I suppose it's also time for a progress update on that front. Gordon Milne paint and panel picked the car up last Friday and I was a nervous wreck until I went and payed them and the car a visit this arvo. Was stoked to find that the parcel tray repair has been completed and signed off, and the cost of the repair didn't give me a heart attack. They've also stripped the front end to inspect the repair to the radiator support and everything looks fine in their opinion. So I'll have my first good nights sleep in a few days and might have the car back this week if they get a good run at it.
  3. What josh said, hardcore wof. wheels come off, brake rotors and pads need to be new or near new, all the running gear needs to be perfect. and if any signs of old repairs are visible then your in my situation where you need to put the vehicle through a repair cert. basically when putting an Lvv certified vehicle through compliance, everything HAS to be true to the cert plate, my cert plate states that the car is fitted with a strut brace. So to gain compliance I need one. Although annoying it does make sense, old car with big engine shoehorned into it, beefing the front end up a tad definitely isn't a silly idea
  4. as the title says, i'm in urgent need of a front strut brace for the e30 as it cant go through recompliance without one. dont mind what it is as long as it fits I can be reached on 021776223 cheers
  5. I guess it's time for a progress update, the car went through inspection yesterday, bit of a setback as it needs repair certification for an old repair to the front end around the radiator support, and the parcel tray needs to be repaired where it has been cut to fit 6x9s (going to be some expensive 6x9s) other than that it's all minor nuts and bolts issues that will be an easy fix. so it's off to the panel shop today to get the ball rolling. buying with lapsed reg was always going to be a gamble. looks like it might cost a bit more than i was anticipating but the end result will be worth it. cant wait to have it back on the road where it belongs. i'll start a wanted thread with parts i'll need to get the car through. as it stands, I need a strut brace as it's LVV certed for one but doesnt have one fitted (if things get desperate i'll make one) I will be needing your basketweaves nipe so i'll be in touch. also needs standard front strut tops as it's not certed for camber plates. depending on how much I spend obtaining a repair cert i may just put it through certification for the keskins and the camber plates. but at the moment i'm trying to keep things cheap until I know what the bodyworks going to cost me.
  6. mis badged bimmers always get a laugh out of me when i see them out and about, takes me back to when i was 15 cruising round in my m10 powered auto e30 that was proudly repping M badges front and rear, these were the first "modification" i did after buying it, followed soon after by the mandatory dumpy exhaust, huge sub and supercheap auto tints with heaps wrinkles only time it really bugs me is when people try and sell these wrongly badged cars that are devoid of M features as the real thing.
  7. sure are, especially when it's one you've had your eye on for a long time. didnt have a very productive day working on it unfortunately, job i was doing at work was bigger than i expected. still got the cold air box set up, and front brakes bled but ran out of time to do the rears. luckily my landcruiser sold today so i'm feeling more inclined to just leave it at the garage and pay them to sort out the boring stuff. on another note, do any christchurch members have a spare set of bottlecaps. basketweaves or any other more conservative wheels with good tyres they'd like to loan out for a couple of days? beers of your choice would be involved. the keskins may be an issue at inspection time as they aren't mentioned on the cert plate, everything else is in line with the plate and i'd ike to avoid paying an extra $400 to re cert just for the wheels.
  8. and it's home, my garage just became awesome the drive in from rangiora via a mates farm in waikuku and then through ohoka was a real eye opener, this thing is amazing when it's in it's element. a change of undies is now needed after i forgot that today is christmas in the park day. half an hour of sitting in crawling traffic around hagley park with a cop car behind me the whole time just to keep things real.... on a good note, it definitely keeps it'self cool in traffic. so onwards from here it's going into work tomorrow for a brake bleed and plugging in of front indicators and then on to a compliance center on monday after work if i can decide who to use (any more recommendations on this one would be great) can't wait till it's all legal and i can really start enjoying it. few wee interior items to tidy up and then we'l see what happens from there. nothing major planned at the moment because theres not much that i feel needs improving at this point.
  9. as of tomorrow I will be the new proud and unbelieveably stoked owner of rileys e30v8. unfortunately when cars sit in storage for a few years while the owner is overseas the registration can lapse... I have called a few inspection centers about it, mainly to discuss wether the LVV plate is still relevant, which it is thank god, with a mods list as long as my arm re cert would be a nightmare. so my question is, are there any garages or inspection centers who chch members have had good dealings with? I'm busy as at work for the rest of the year and days off are hard to come by so i'm going to try and keep the process as simple as possible. obviously i want to get this awesome beast back on the road as soon as possible so any tip offs would be greatly appreciated cheers in advance
  10. think one of my cars might have to go on trademe, kicking myself for buying a motorbike last week or i'd already be coming for a look, sh*t timing on my part
  11. awesome guess this means theyve started to roll out a new season?
  12. I wouldn't expect it to stick around with the price tag I put on it Im surprised it hung around long enough for me to get my sh*t together and buy it back in jan! sold to another christchurch BS user, so it won't be the last you see of it, I regret selling it already lol too bad it chose to sh*t itself coming into the middle of winter otherwise I would have stuck with riding a scooter to work till I sorted it out.
  13. sold pending pickup and payment
  14. what a beauty, good luck with the sale mate.
  15. haha i jumped on it as soon as i saw it on here in january, if anyone has a spare m50 lying around it's an incredibly easy job to swap out the old engine, wiring is pretty minimal and the rest of the car is all set up. i'll regret selling it but I need a working car asap, bit a pain because I was planning on taking it off the road in a couple of months and giving it a ground up rebuild. also open to swaps for cars of lesser value as long as they run and move under their own power and don't overheat, $500 shitbox and cash my way anyone?
  16. Never been above the three quarter mark during my ownership, I'm very careful after previous experiences with my old e30, still runs like a champ and pulls like a train
  17. hi all, the e30 is reluctantly for sale the car has recently developed an overheating problem, i don't know what the cause is, waterpump shaft bearing s are toast and the waterpump needs replacing however the impeller itself was in good order. thermostat seems to open and close ok. so probably either a blocked radiator or the dreaded BHG.... the rest of the car is in ok condition, paint isn't great with fading on the roof and a bit of speed peel on the LR wheelarch but it does the job, the diff is a bit noisy but can only noticed if youre listening for it. goes like a shower of sh*t by e30 standards. no reg, no wof, no cert. engine conversion has been done properly, nothing is dodgy. $3000 is what it'll cost you. i cant be f**ked dealing with it and don't currently have the time or money to do so anyway. i'm looking for a quick sale as I urgently need another daily because riding a scooter from christchurch to lyttelton every day is something i'd like to avoid if possible. this car has been a reliable daily driver for the past 6 months and has been used on several long drives during my ownership. things i will swap for: utes, three thousand big ones, shitty rear wheel drive k series toyotas that pull mean rippys, station wagons, e30s, sensible corollas, anything diesel powered, anything else as long as it's not stupidly thirsty and it works, reg and wof are not a chief concern. good chance for someone with any of the above to take advantage of my misfortune and nab themselves a dirt cheap manual m50 coupe. if it doesn't sell i'll fix it, cert it, reg it and wof it and then put it back on the market for considerably more than i'm asking now. see my signature for a temporary photo, i'll upload more tomorrow. 021776223
  18. no you cant, but it's not too hard to open a drain plug, and its free
  19. ouch i brimmed mine before driving it up to picton a while ago, filled it up again in kaikoura on the way home, did some maths and came up with 8.0L per 100 (all open road with my lead foot coming into play every now and again) I always run 95 in mine, 91 is horrible stuff. you should try and sort out a taller geared diff mate it'l probably save you a heap of money in gas bills. bet the short final drive ratio is good fun though

    Iphone help.

I'd Recommend jailbreaking it, did it to my iPhone 4 and it's way less crap now once jailbroken iPhones are very capable and easier to personalize/f**k with in ways that Steve jobs doesn't approve of.
  21. looks good albeit very overkill, why dont you just get a decent one way bleed valve, they do the job fine as long as you don't get an $11 dollar supercheap auto one.
  22. hi all, after pulling my inlet manifold today to plumb up my heater as the drive to work is getting too cold for my liking i found that one of the hard plastic heater core lines that goes through the firewall is snapped, FML. put it all back together and now i'm back where i started. does anyone in christchurch have a spare one of these for sale that i could grab some time this week or ideally tomorrow? it's the one that goes through the upper of the two holes. pm me or text me on 021776223 cheers

    E30 LSD

if it's factory m tech then it will have one unless it's been borrowed at some point. if you still want to check then do what he said^^
  24. massive win! my old mr2 used to lift a wheel and beach itself semi regularly before i put an lsd in it. tbh it was funny as f**k and never annoyed me. used to get me some strange looks when i'd repeatedly get stuck with a wheel in the air at the servo and have to jump out and give the old girl a nudge in the right direction more of the same directed at the jdm boys
  25. Gently applying pressure with a taper break often doesn't do the job, a ball joint fork and a good whack with a hammer is normally more effective as long as you make sure you don't split the rubber ball joint boot while your at it, otherwise of you can get a clean shot then back the nut off a couple of turns and try and break the taper with a lead hammer or similar.
