4 Door seats in a 2 door car How will you get in the back?
-
All e30 323 are L-jet,all 325 are Motronic. Only 320s can be either.
-
If you think 320s are bad try a 518
-
Its not that green one on trade me is it?That claims to be a 86 even though its a facelift.
-
Yes the cars are all basically the same .There are no differences between the bodies that concern the engine swap from 4 to 6 cylinder. As long as you get all the parts that are particular to the engine you want to fit eg ,ECU,engine wiring, gearbox, diff, radiator, engine mounts, brakes, springs, sway bar etc, it all bolts straight in.Some car need a small change to their wiring but this is dependent on the year of the car/engine & only involves 11 wires
-
The trouble is any gearbox from any m20 will BOLT onto any other m20 engine reguardless of size or age ,The problem is that some of the earlier boxes dont have the lugs for the crank angle sensors. If the box has 2 holes that line up with the flywheel(down on the left hand side from memory)then its probably the one you want.
-
If your doing a m50 conversion the engine wiring loom & ecu get tossed anyway. You just need to make wiring adaptor to meet the chassis loom plug next to the fuse box(pre facelift) or on the firewall plug (facelift cars). The wiring looms on all e30 are very similar with usually only the shape of some plugs changing over time

I sold a box a while back ,I had heaps of people ring up and ask if it would fit a 318 but when I told them it was from a 320 they lost interest, so Im guessing they dont fit.Does anyone out there know for sure?
-
I think you need a Getrag 260 .The number is on the gearbox case.Stay away from the Getrag 240,245 or ZF S 5-16.The gearbox thats for sale could be the right one as some pre facelift cars were fitted with the 260 box.
-
That gearbox may not have the holes for the crank angle/speed sensor needed in the Motronic system-Be careful you dont pay too much for a box thats no good for your car

316 are 1600, well 1596cc to be exact. The 318 & 316 engines look the same but they use different cranks & rods.Andrew I think you mean the M10 powered cars are 1800 even when they are badged 316

What year is your 320 ?If its an 88 or later the job is a whole lot easier. If its ealier it pays to get the correct box & radiator for the 2.5L engine along with the engine loom & ECU
-
manual 1080kg, auto 1100kg, add 25kg for a 4 door.A 323 has about 20-25 more HP than a 320 depending on the year

wouldn't it have been easier to buy the right g/box with the holes for the crank angle/speed sensor in it??

The Honda system has the ability to change valve LIFT as well as timing & duration. The increased valve lift improves the gas flow & thus power. They are different all right, vtec actually does something good

I wont hold my breath Grant , Ive seen cars with less damage writen off by insurance companies
-
I was afraid of that. I will keep an eye out for a donor car, but at this point, a lot of the advice points to either just giving up (something I am not used to!) or not upgrading as you say from 4-6.Decisions, decisions........ Dont get me wrong, I dont want to put you off the engine swap idea .I want to do it all over again but using a 3.5L m30 engine
-
I wouldnt consider doing a engine swap from 4 to 6 unless I had the complete car to take all the parts from.I bought wrecked 325 for $900 which made it easy as it gave me all the parts I needed. If you had to buy all the parts seperately the cost would get out of hand.Parts that are different include-Springs,swaybar,radiator,gearbox,diff,wiring.Actually you may have to change more parts than that as it depends on the age & model of the car/engine combo your using(those are just the parts that are different between a 323 & a 325) but you get the idea. Good luck Graeme
