  1. The calipers can jamb on the pins that they are supposed to "float" on. When this happens the calipers no longer move to follow the disk runout, the disks then overheat, warp and wear.
  2. Mine has two, as did one of my parts cars. The intank pump in the twin pump cars is not a high pressure EFI pump, it only keeps the external pump primed. The car will run without the internal pump working but the external pump becomes even louder and the external pumps life is shortened if the intank pump is not working properly.
  3. Pull the rubber grommet out from around the heater pipes and access the screws from the engine bay side of the firewall.
  4. Some have only one pump in the tank, accessed from under the rear seat. Some have only one mounted in front of the left rear tyre. Some have two, one in the tank and one in front of the tyre. All the pumps are noisy, so you should be able to hear them if they are running.
  5. I think there are some clearance problems when fitting a E36 M42 into a E30. The E30 M42's have different shaped intake manifolds, the E36 intake will hit the E30 bonnet

    E30

Sorry, this thread is more than a year old. The springs are long gone.
  7. My last set of pads (not genuine BMW) came with a new bolts and they were pre coated with thread lock.
  8. 14.5mm is the thickest OEM, there is also a 12mm and 13.5mm. The 4WD may have a thicker bar but where are you going to find one??

    e28 calipers

The front 320 sway bar is 18.5mm, the 325 front is 20mm. The 320 has a 12mm rear bar until March 85 then 14.5mm after that, but plenty 320's have no rear bar at all. 325's have a 14.5mm rear bar. I put a 325 rear bar into my 318. It did improve the handling a little, but it doesn't really make a huge difference. E28 discs don't fit on regular e30's only E30M3's
  10. Don't know about a build plate but the H23 engine was coded MB9E. Spoiler kits were not standard. It should have Hartge badges on the instruments (and a 280k speedo) Hartge/Momo 4 spoke steering wheel, 16 inch 11 spoke alloys and Hartge springs with revalved bilsteins.
  11. Are you sure it's genuine. A H23 should have more than a Hartge cam cover. Where are the big brakes, strut brace, 16 inch wheels, extractors etc????? E30 Restoration Bible lists the diff as 3.25:1, a 3.46:1 is for a standard 323
  12. I've had one pair resurfaced for $40. New disks were $300. Despite the cost difference, I would never bother with resurfacing them again. New disks might have cost almost 10x as much but they were worth every $$$.
  13. The factory part is not just a simple T fitting. Inside it are two one way valves that stop the water inside the hoses draining back down to the washer bottle. A T fitting will work in its place but there will be a much longer delay between switching the washers on and actually getting any water out.
  14. I got lots of E30 windows $20 each, but what type do you need? Is your car 2 or 4 door, electric or manual windows? I'm in Papakura. Phone 299 7942ah or 021 136 7007 or PM me.
  15. A donor car is the best way to go, but if you want to do the swap without one all you really need to get from a 2.5 car is the ECU, engine loom and radiator. No wiring "splicing" is needed you just have to swap one plug on the loom for one of a different shape. As others have mentioned you will need the right box too, if the engine you plan to use is from a prefacelift car.
  16. A cracked head can pressurize the cooling system. Are you sure the hose is in good condition and the hose clamp is done up properly?
  17. Not all 323's had 245 dogleg boxes, it's just that they were the only E30's in which it was offered as an option.

Will, is this where the M10 turbo is going???
  19. Are you sure is not just the rocker cover gasket that is leaking the oil?? Head gaskets often don't leak oil......not unless you've blown the head clean off the engine.
  20. There are different capacity tanks but the size is dependant on age rather than the engine size. Really early cars had 58 litres, after Sep 83 they dropped to 55 then after the facelift went to 63. Also there is a larger along range tank with a split filler pipe fitted to some SA assembled cars.
  21. Just a thought, as the E30 diesels were available turbo charged doesn't that make any turbo E30 eligible too?????
  22. Have you checked to see if the AFM flap is moving freely??
  23. Yes, the boot should unlock with the central locking, if the boot is fitted with it that is. However central locking was not standard equipment, some cars did not have it at all and others only had it on the doors and not the petrol flap and boot. If it is fitted to your boot and everthing else is working OK then you probably just need a new CL motor on the boot. The CL motors in E30's are prone to failure.
  24. I don't want any parts, but i'll happily rip your car apart on the 28th or 29th
