Hi All, Apparently E36 convertibles need a special battery. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm not too familiar with auto electronics... Looks like the one I have isn't correct so I want to make sure I get the right one. Is this one ocorrect? https://www.thebatterycellonline.co.nz/product/E44

You were right Glenn..... We put the wrong spigot bearing in!! Changed the spigot and the gearbox slipped in like a glove So grateful for the tip.

Hi everyone, my son and I decided to attempt change the clutch on his 1998 328i E36 which has a factory 5 speed manual ZF gearbox. We both have done a couple vehicle minor repairs and maintenance before but nothing as big as a clutch change....which I know some of you could do blind folded! We thought we would give it a go seeing we are in lockdown. We've installed a stage 2 clutch kit off Ebay. And followed several YouTube videos. No problems what so ever....managed to removed parts and gearbox, replaced clutch, greased as required, torqued as required.... But we just can't get the gearbox back on! We can get it as close as with just a 5-10mm gap all around the bell housing but just can seem to get it flush. Any advice?

Hi, is your car still available? Would be keen to view. Cheers, André

Hi. I test drove this black 540i msport which the thread is related to. I was also going to ask for more insight on this vehicle as there were some concerns. Bearing in mind I am not a mechanic - the vehicle has a heavy shudder when breaking at speeds 75km +...Also in the front right of the engine compartment (see photo), there is a mechanism which I think has something o do with the power steering...this is held up by cable ties, very loose and pissing oil from what I assume is the seals. Also, the boot is messed with oil. It could have been messed with cooking oil on the way home from a grocery run....or the boot could have been used as a storage for the vehicles parts during a major over haul. There is a sticker in the boot lid from the BM wrkshop in New Lynn. I am really not sure about these points I found concerning above. Overall, the vehicle drove well at low speeds in traffic. It was responsive when the throttle was opened. And god damn did this car caused many heads to turn! Does anybody know this car at all?

Yeah - I just saw that too!

Thanks to everyone that has commented! Much appreciated! After much deliberation - I have decided against taking this vehicle for the simple reason I am not keen on the SMG. I think it would be really dumb forking out that kind of money for a toy that I hope to get used to!!! No offence to those who drive the original SMG but I feel anything with an M badge should have a clutch. I am not sure about any damages to this vehicle. I believe that I have thoroughly checked the vehicle and if it was damaged then whoever did the repair needs a medal of some sort! Secondly, the drive this vehicle gave did reflect one which you would expect from an example with such mileage. This would be a good buy for an enthusiast who battles the Auckland traffic on a daily basis or a pressie for the wife which you could borrow on those track days!

Yeah - I totally agree about the nasty tailgating ongoings especially in Auckland. While I also believe that tapping your brake to signal a wake up call to the mofo behind you is a better option but it also has the potential to end up extremely disasterous....especially if you've got passengers or the road is busy i.e heaps a cars around you. If you are alone and the roads are quiet....you can choose how loud you want to send that wake up call out!

Will give it a thought. Thank you.

No - not related to any Nick. Is he a member here?

Apparently so. But I'm hoping that having low mileage that the thing aint gonna cause any trouble soon. But still nerve wrecking though.

Hi Wayney. Thanks for your reply. Its definately a SMG with no bloody clutch. Thats the only down side to this vehicle - well for me. I feel that the joy of driving this car is really determined/limited by the SMG settings whereas the manual...you could do as you please. The ride was bloody awesome though. Really smooth changing of gears as well.

Hi All. What are your thoughts (price, model, condition, etc) on this M3? I'm just concerned about the SMG though...as I would definately prefer a clutch! Anyways, I checked it out today and it is in better condition than described in the ad. Also - does anyone know this vehicle? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.as...384876010"]http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=384876010
