awesome! love it...nice to see some vids....even though its a year ago
-
most of the lambos look badass but not actually pretty, excl. the original miura...love those!
-
love the m coupe and the e92 diffuser!

do-able, as long as you have all parts/tools needed etc although a) I would not bank on having to need it on Monday might be best to take a bit of time to fix things while ya there, preventative maintenance type stuff M10 is tiny!! M20 is much heavier...I couldnt manage an M42 by myself either (well I did with the crane) awkward things to lift
-
why obviously other than the dealership? they arent that $$ Euro Italian MIGHT, but you may have trouble with the small bits
-
look after it!!! very nice machine you have there, don't f**k up the guards with those wheels either and it'll stay a nice car and hold its value!
-
got the engine, borrowed the hoist off guys on the zone..they are ok, not really that friendly though (have met a few whilst buying bits) i dont even own a hammer here! was sorely tempted at many stages but managed to find other tools to do the job m42 goes much better than the m40...almost feels like driving a real car...almost..
-
straight forward, was just missing a few bits\got everything hookedt up and then had to take the box off starting from when I first got it having no tools at all was the hardest!

after a blown HG on the boat anchor of an M40, I decided I wanted an M42 - sacked - something heavy in there? - full M42 + box conversion, engine crane, various bits n pieces in the back of the touring did most of it by myself so no pics, fast foward a week after waiting for bits and a few all dayers on the weekend and a quick clean - tossing between new seats or seat covers..prob neither for the time being! mtech 2 wheel is an addition by me her name is Loveby due to the plate, the M42 leaks a bit of oil and a sway bar link causes some knocking but otherwise she ain't in bad shape...looking forward to some epic road trips and a blat around the ring and this is why my neighbours hate me and think I am an a**hole - this is their car park and it's 10x better than when I had both engines and boxes out!

i have been reading a thread on e30tech (dan martins turbo thread or something like that) and he has produced some very interesting results v nice intake manifold, exhaust manifold, nice turbo, good management and tuning...stock engine except for head bolts and he is making around 450hp on the stock m20.....might be other areas to spent $$ on before going internal? (although lowering compression is a must in some engines)

original M1 kicks ass...where are my pics...

The unsung hero.... the mighty log
Gus replied to Lubed's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
v true...doesnt mean it couldnt be better. the Hartge 335 does 380 hp which aint bad..imagine what that engine could do let loose! -
i believe the 2 man bike seatpost was the pinnacle..

I have been reading on e30zone.co.uk that the E34 brake bar can be used to help cure the poor e30 braking setup as it is slightly thicker and therefore stiffer (the bar that transfers the RHD pedal box to the LHD brake booster). Someone should give this a go as it should be cheap..I don't know any details and am trying to track one down over here to give it a go myself...should be an easy upgrade and (IMO) might help cure one of the e30s main downsides. good luck!

The unsung hero.... the mighty log
Gus replied to Lubed's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Why do you think you are so right? do you have any facts at all to back up what you are saying? I can see a little of the logic you are using but it doesnt have application to what actually happens. Mike's right - the manifold plays a large part in the action of the turbo Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but are you sure those 335i manifolds fit into the log description? I am not 100% sure In case you haven't noticed, no-one here thinks a log manifold is crap. they can be great. however there are better solutions out there for power, end of. log-lover. -

^^^^ well, duh...kinda obvious really isnt it? what point are you trying to make? -

the 335i output aint that great...3.0 L turbo making 300hp? an increase of 60hp or so over a stock 3.0? imagine what it could do with a nice free manifold and a large turbo!! I really like the TCD M20 log manifold..good for 400 hp if I remember rightly? -
did you leave the maplight mirror, struts and trailing arms on there? another nice car gone..
-
not cheap though..and as tony mentioned M20 flywheel + clutch is a much cheaper way to do it...although you do need to change your starter pinion dual masses are heavy to help with smoothness....bit of performance killer as they are 2x the weight of a normal fly
-
use a piece of steel and attach by bolts in the flywheel and gearbox mountings...or have something that hooks onto the teeth which is a little harder
-
there is a big big difference between "doing the job" and doing something "right" a log manifold will work, will work well and will be sufficient for most - it still doesnt mean it is the best solution. the DA manifold has a lot of sharp transitions which means it would probably flow quite badly..it would do the job but not necessary well. + it looks like an abortion..make something look pretty if for the simple reason of doing something well! Read Corky Bell - maximum boost, its a very interesting turbo book

mind explaining yours??

haha...i can't imagine buying a car WITHOUT any problems! best of luck!
