OLLIE 26 Report post Posted August 22, 2007 to race in classic car events and i think targa, the engine must remain the same engine that came with that model car ... correct me if i'm wrong
Andrew 30 Report post Posted August 22, 2007 not to piss on your parade, and i am green with envy that you have the means to builds such an outstanding car, but wouldnt a swap for a different motor have yielded better results? not sure what the rules are, but it seems to be must retain same engine, but with unlimited mods? what class you racing in? Not really - An S50 is A) Hard to find Similar power C) Less reliable perhaps. D) Costs even more I could of put any BMW 6 cylinder motor in - even an S50 would only be around 170 rwKw - I'm aiming for the 170 mark with this motor also - and it's spanking new. ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted August 22, 2007 Wouldnt an S50 have been better in the long run? Being 24 valve and all. More possibilities of yeilding more HP? You are not going turbo evah though are you? So I guess M20 will suffice thinking that way.
tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted August 24, 2007 Big respect for doing Hardcore NA engine mods and not just putting in another bmw 6. It will be very rewarding knowing that you have built an older engine that can take down most newer twincam engines in hp and torque thats just oldschool ! hybrid 1043 Report post Posted August 27, 2007 I'd rather not have VANOS - repairing an S50 would cost heaps each time also. Nah its not that bad aye .. just every 120ks you need to service it and check for wear. about a $400 job ... Think of it as like servicing you cam belt / tensioner bearing. But yes your 120% right in the "they are impossible to find" and being an "M" motor, you pay "M" prices for everything. To all: You can also just lock the cams and not run vanos if its your thing ... but you loosing 1/3 of the s50's ability. With BMW's engines, torque is king HP is secondary. a 3ltr m20 is gonna sound soooo good

Andrew 30 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Small update - Have got the Engine (parts) to Gavin Bellars @ Hi Velocity. Started cleaning up the car - a few years of racing and things get a bit mank. I'll probably re-do the interior also. Did the engine bay on sunday - turned out badass. Sucks having better paint in your engine bay than on the outside of the car. Got the wonderful henna red put in some spray cans. Badass Primer-ing Finished result - henna goodness
