just tune chipped my ride (gains 12hp + more low end torque)

(my ride: 1999, e46, 328ci, manual)

omg ............ SHOCKing ... the power... :wacko:

more low end torque,

i was shaking from the power unleased from the reserve engine.

before i would redline at 6400revs.... now its 7200revs redline before the engine shudders. (off the rev counter)

chiptuning rules. breathe taking. :rolleyes: and to think you saving a little bit more on petrol too.

go tunechipping.!!!!

There are a few remaps Dinan / AA / Tecknik offer for the e46, they make ok gains but at the expense of fuel economy and sometimes cause flat spots else where. If you ever need your ECU updated at BMW they will end up wiping it all in favour for there software. (they do back it up but it does take hours)

Most of them however have been tuned for US fuel. It is possible to get the maps redone on the standard ECU however it requires (as with anything) dyno time for the car in the current conditions.

best gains for an e46 that are in the first stage range is a good qaulity intake/filter and exhaust work. (removing the restrictive OEM sensor section)

Fabricating a new oxygen sensor section for more flow will give you really good gains in the higher rev range as the standard . (have personally done this) Along with a good tuned exhaust system. Next is headers and throttle body / intake is another option to consider.

you can feel the horse power.. when you are at 4000revs .. and you get pushed back in your seat.

its retuning your chip.

more torque.

i know you want technical graphics.. then you should look at www.superchips.co.nz. he has graphs.

i already know there is huge power gains.. and usually the vanos kicks in at 4000 and its just a little bit better.

but now.. its like.. you can feel the g's.

(really this tunechipping is just more low and mid range torque to support the vanos that kicks in pass 4000revs....

which just really means.. quicker to 100 km/h)

if you want to know the power.. how about you drive their ... standard cars vs tuned. (if you can not feel the changes in torque + hp difference, i guess you are a hard person to please)

my car standard is 193 hp.

before the tunechip was done. the car was great.

after it was done.. it was a new monster.

if the tunechip did not work.. then where does this new torque and power come from?

usually my standard bmw power kicks in like 3000revs..

now.. as soon as i tap the accelerator, the power is there... easily move the car on 1000revs

but then again.. i am 328ci .

also... the rev speedo does not stop at 6400 anymore... its been remapped to 7200rev.. just off the speedo rev counter. (as the tuner said, the engine should start halting when the gears reached its max rev in that gear, and we got it up pass 7000revs. where as before the tune.. 6400.. and the car just halters. wanting to change up a gear.

believe me. i put off this tunechipping. thinking its a waste of money, get headers or exhaust system.

but.. i must say.. its pretty much worth it. :rolleyes:

but then.. i think you need a power bmw car, like over 2.2 litres to appreciate the difference in power.

a 2 litre bmw might just have a little speed boost at lower revs thats all.

subsequently, changing your car to be more low and mid ranged torquey, you lose top high speeds

my 1st gear ratio used to red line at 70 km/h , now with retune its like 55 km/h

2nd gear redline at 120 before tune, now with retune 100km/h

power lost at high top speeds per gear ratio. at the expenses of more power at low revs.

chiptuning explainned to me... why not have a fast accelerating car, with torque than highest speeds when the highest speed limit is only 100 km/h legally on the roads. (besides on tracks)

its a hard choice.

people think before you retune.

Tell me please, how can you increase revs from 6400 to 7200, and yet decrease speed in a manual in first from 70 to 55kmph? :wacko:

That's about a 12% increase in revs, but a 20% decrease in speed?

Guess that logic explains the rest of the thread :rolleyes:

got sent my actual specs sheet of car changes

it displays my car info, (car engine model, car VIN ..... and other personal car facts.

specs says, standard 328i = 143kw retune 328i = 159kw

or 192 hp retune = 215 hp.

oh by the way, i am running a remus aftermarket exhaust kit. ... with a cataback system.

i think my speedo is ruin or something like that, it seems my first gear does not want to go faster than 55 km/h, i was flooring it, and at 4000revs i was at 50, 5500 revs 55km/h , but the revs just accelerate higher and you can feel the impact of the acceleration. Perhaps my speedo is just broken.

well, chiptuning company, is run by a German guy , specialising in europeans cars, he flies over back to Germany often to get updates on this chiptuning.

how much does a dyno's run cost? <_<

where can i get them done cheaply around auckland? :mellow:

Best mated with a great flowing exhaust and intake system ... will give you some more power. Not sure if its worth the money though. Certainly not for the 330i ... your 328i may have picked up some better gains however.

i think your assumption note is quite correct

i have experienced gains at lower torque... :rolleyes:

as correct me if i am wrong the vanos will only kick in like 4000revs or 4500 revs,

the lower torque gains just means.. there is more power quicker at 1500 revs than before at say 3500 revs.

will get a dyno soon, probably closer to december if all plans go well. :mellow:

but in hinder sight, powering up a car probably the best thing you could do is supercharge for some serious power,

i have contacted AUStralia for a supercharging kit, and the cost is quite premium
