Gus 5 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story....jectid=10483177 interesting comments about Ford discontinuing in NZ/Oz
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 It's the Fairlane LTD, they are discontinuing. Holden are doing the same with the Statesman. I'm keen to see a Fairlane to 10.21l/100km. It'd do it at a constant 110kph, but nowhere else.
camera doctor 25 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 And I thought the Govt had no taste! Go Figure ! This will get the pleebs pissy!
bravo 35 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 I must be a pleeb then. Waste of taxpayers money. This talk of buying new vehicles to retire older ones to help the environment is a crock of sh*t. Your average $40,000 jappa uses more than twice its weight in fossil fuels to be produced. I imagine bimmers etc cost a fair bit more. Thus at a saving of 2l per onehundreed km, its going to take a LONG time to make up the diffrerence (around 200,000km). I wouldn't care if it wasn't 1) taxpayer money. 2) This bullshit spin to hide the fact they upgraded their cars to ones that cost 2.5 times as much. Grant 4 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 I thought the PM and GG were catered around in Jags anyway? No, I was at en event with the PM a few weeks ago, and she turned up in a Chrysler 300C. I was of the understanding that they had chosen the Chrysler - maybe the deal fell through at the last moment.Cheers Grant

hybrid 1043 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 "A blogger on kiwiblog.co.nz points out that the BMW's top speed of 238km/h is 20 per cent faster than the Fairlane, making it "easier to get to the rugby on time" - a reference to Helen Clark's speeding motorcade in 2004." bloggin nuubs capable of far more

Also consider the fact they are still running around our roads....I have often wondered what the energy input of manufacturing a new car is compared to running an older one.I wonder if the hybrids are more energy intensive to produce? The manufacturers could consider a program where a new engine and ecu is transplanted into an otherwise perfectly good car.ie a worn out M30 could be replaced with a 3.0 deisel or a 3.0 petrol
Markq 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 Nice cars, but waste of our tax money!!! Our government doesnt need to spend that sort of money and although I hate Ford/Holdens they should be working closely with Australia. Doesn;t Holden still do the uncool but much cheaper Caprice? What next M5 Police Cars!!!!

hybrid 1043 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I wrote to the herald with this to put some perspective on things I can see while people a mad on here about the supposed published price, please keep in mind its like any tender. BMW AG would have had the opportunity to get publicity on this. BMW would of slashed the price no matter what to get the deal. BMW enjoy a great position of being one of the greenest vehicles in the world and for them to capitalise on this I think is a wise move. For your readers information. The e65/66 Chassis (which is what they have purchased) is in its run out year. The new 7 series (F01) is due to be on sale in Germany some time next year. Also something to remember, while they indeed look like big gas guzzling vehicles, it is a 730Ld which is; a 7 series with a 3.0ltr Turbo Diesel engine, the 'L' stands for limousine. Which is less than the current Ford Fairlane’s which use a 5.0ltr petrol engine. The vehicles both weigh about the same. Its easy for people jump the band wagon with out indeed know the facts, I just wish before people would draw conclusions they could look into things a bit more ïŠ Kind Regards, Josh Purcell BMW e46 330i and e30 m325i owner. www.bimmersport.co.nz admin

bravo 35 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 But Josh, same goes for Ford. If the margins are the same, then the Fords would still be a much sharper price as they too would be heavily discounted. I wish politicians would act like the public servants they are supposed to be.
Guest 540Si Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I wish politicians would act like the public servants they are supposed to be. Amen to that Quite aside from the issue of the governmental vehicle fleet - I'm tired of listening to a bunch of useless socialists and/or troublemakers tell us how to feel and behave when they're supposed to be working for and LISTENING to the public. Arrogant w**kers - most of them have never even had a real job in their lives. End rant I'm quite pleased that they didn't pick that butt-ugly behemoth the 300C - go the 7's! Maybe they'll have a look at road user charges for the diesel passenger vehicle fleet now

They wouldnt have just cut the margins .. I think you will find BMW would have some what 'sponsored' the fleet. I wish politicians would act like the public servants they are supposed to be. I don't think thats going to happen under MMP ... if the media stopped reporting on polictical bun fights all the time, they might actually stop. Thing is just to ignore it. ThreeOneEight 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I saw Jeanette Fitzsimons on One News just before, asking why they needed thirty-four BMW Limousines for visiting dignitaries and the like, because we only have one Queen. Whilst sharing some of Ms Fitzsimons concerns, I must remind her that the current Labour Cabinet includes about five queens.
