danthaman01 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 just had this emailed to me im keen if the countrys keen IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN NEW ZEALAND DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22nd HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED STICK IT UP THEIR %^$ DAY!! AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT. WAITING FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES ? IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED LONG AGO? THE PRICES JUST KEEP GOING UP AND WE NEED TO STOP IT PETROL PRICES ARE CAUSING OTHER EFFECTS; AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, AS ARE TRUCKING COMPANIES . THIS INCREASES PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE FEBRUARY 22nd THE DAY CITIZENS OF NEW ZEALAND SAY 'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH'

Foohey 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Just like Smokefree day and no fast food day? Lovely idea, but wouldn't work in a million years... Hes right... i get my licence back on the 20th.. and my mags on 21st... so if everyone in nz stops buying petrol... ill be driving around so much the oil co's will still make a profit
greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I think its a great idea, but just like Jeremy said it wouldn't work. There would always be someone who would fill up.
CamB 48 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Its such bollocks - its spam. NZ and Australian demand is a drop in the global bucket (30m people vs 250m plus in each of Europe and US), and in any case assuming people still drive their cars, the same petrol gets sold a day later... Won't matter at all.
M325is 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Thats what I thought, you would go to the pump the day before or after instead, only way you could combat it would be to say " Nobody go anywhere for a week, if you go somewhere walk or take a push bike". This way you skip a tank fill up, leaving you with $80 extra in your tank but less a f**k load more in wages. Hence will never work.
bravo 35 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Comes up every year or two
Grant 4 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Cool, I'll go specifically on that day to fill up, no queue at all, choice of pump, and I'll be in and out nice and quickly. Stupid idea, won't achieve anything, I can't believe that people would fall for spam like this. Cheers Grant

jpp 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 Silly reason... only means the fuel companies will increase the price from that day onwards to cover costs.
Grant 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 What gets me is that we don't buy petrol because we want too, it is a requirement of running a car, therefore the oil companies aren't too concerned about this as it just means that their sales will just increase for the couple of days prior to, and after this and all will be happy again in the world. There is an easy solution if you are unhappy about petrol prices, and that it to dust off the 10 speed or walk, as there is sweet stuff all you (or I) can do about them.
