Would it make sense to say i should keep it because i have the sumpguard, meaning there is less airflow over the sump?

I would like to loose it

yea it makes sense to keep it but im sure if you run a quality oil you can lower operating temperatures without doing harm.

IMO I would endevour to keep it. Swap the line fittings for AN, get longer lines and mount it above the intercooler. Or do what most people do when installing aftermarket ones, make a few brackets and mount it behind one of the brake ducts.

Best way to do stuff like this is to make it out of cardboard and mock it up before commiting to anything.

But as mentioned before, personally I'd try and keep it.

Ok so ill try keep the cooler, found a bit more room so may not even have to move it.

An important package came today

post-3318-1272604066.jpg

Dodgy wireing anyone?

post-3318-1272604100.jpg

Heres that room i found, will cut along the white lines tomorrow and open it right up

post-3318-1272604116.jpg

So while the E30 is chilling like this

post-3318-1272604136.jpg

I have to drive this.$400 worth of duel carb power

post-3318-1272604162.jpg

Also im unsere if i wired up the eletric fan right.

I tapped straight into the ac fan wires, and it runs when i push the ac switch, but will not run when the car gets hot ( let it get to 3/4 temp before switching it on manually)

From what i read around the net the ac fan will turn on if it gets too hot, is this correct?

Matt

What sort of charger?

Are you mounting it where the A/C would be, With a V belt?

looks like you have decided to keep it anyway, but removing the oil cooler is a piece of cake if you are still interested in doing that. you just need a lug out of the side of a non cooler M20 and screw that into the side of the block where the cooler housing thing attaches, and then attach a new filter to that. 10 minute job tops (excluding draining/refilling oil)

it's just an sc14 off a previa, im only going to run about 6psi .

And yes mounting it where the ac was with a v-belt, going to be tricky with the headers blocking alot of the room off

I've given up on the idea of mounting it myself because ill never get it right without a hoist (and my home welder is screwed) so will be getting the mount made up and tacked and ill do all the welding at work to save a bit of money.

Good stuff! +1 on keeping the cooler, especially now that you're going to be putting extra strain on the engine.

Lots of pictures please? would like to see one installed ;D

Heres some more pictures from yesterdays work.

Cut the front valance alot more than i originally anticipated,

post-3318-1272753037.jpg

Cut a hole for the intercooler piping on the passenger side, ( put a pipe in there for cold air fot the time being)

post-3318-1272753048.jpg

bent the corners of the radiator support in to accomidate piping

post-3318-1272753057.jpg

Now you can see how much more room i have

post-3318-1272753068.jpg

Had to put everything back togeather because i need the car next weekend, but the week after that she will be going in for a warrent and mounting.

All my intercooler piping will be tucked away as much as possible (aswell as intercooler) so it can't be seen.

But i will still be powerdercoating it this colour

Finally have my car back after 5 weeks (spent all that time there and they hav only just organised spinning up a pully)

So this weekends job is do some work on the e30 and do some paperwork to finish off my apprentiship.

Here we have some components i have been collecting

post-3318-1276310609.jpg

Two of the 4 brackets to mount the intercooler

post-3318-1276310638.jpg

intake with Blow off valve,( only cable tied there at the moment as i havn't organised any joiners) have a outlet for icv in there and still need to do the brake booster valve.

post-3318-1276310669.jpg

Intercooler mounted

post-3318-1276310678.jpg

post-3318-1276310694.jpg

Clearence between fan and cooler is minimal (had to bend up some bits of ali to stop the cooler from moving and touching it.

post-3318-1276310701.jpg

Half of the piping, (just tacked togeather untill next week then ill take it to work and purge it so shes all smooth on the inside)

post-3318-1276310709.jpg

Not much clearence between the bonnet and BOV

post-3318-1276310770.jpg

managed to move the oil cooler down 25mm and massaged the lines so it all fits mint

post-3318-1276310780.jpg

Next came fitting the bumper again to measure how much i had to cut to get it back on. So I slid it on and "WALA" it fitted without any cutting, (i hadnt measured anything when mounting as i was just going to cut the kit to suit.) So with that putting me in a good mood i treated myself to a few pies

post-3318-1276310797.jpg

post-3318-1276310788.jpg

Next on the list is wire the fan.

Extend the afm plug wiring.

Mount the powersteering tank down lower.

Relocate the fuel relay box
