Want an excuse to hate poms?

Recommended Posts

Ok then, give a good reason?

Just because one idiot in one newspaper tries to be a little bit controversial to get himself noticed that's a reason to hate a whole country?

The REALLY funny bit, is that this is in the Guardian, a leftie teacher and social workers paper, which regularly bangs on about how all cultures should be given rights within the UK to the point that British Cristian values should not be shown for fear of upsetting the other cultures. So is banning the Haka - a cultural exhibition - not more than a little contradictory?

Don't rise to such feeble bait, the guy is only out to get a few people to bite and reply in outrage. Hating all Poms because of this prick would be like me hating Kiwis because of Winston Peters says on TV!

Love & Kisses,

Jon The Pom.

If you can't beat them, then criticise them.

Sorry, should have thought of a more suitable thread subject name... But you get the idea.

quite funny that they go over the top about this when the museums of England(esp london) are filled to overflowing with other cultural property stolen from all over the world...if it is so worthless give it all back.....

It's a silly, fake, uneccessary embarrassment for those who have to carry it out, and i'm quite happy for them to continue with it for those reasons alone - especially if it means we get to hear from a bunch of irate sheep-shaggers every time we point out their folly.

A quote from one of the people commenting on the article.

I'm sure everyone who does the Haka is sooo embarrassed by doing it!

Oh give me a break.

What do you kiwi's want? For everyone to get their deck chairs out, sit through the performance and give polite applause when its all finished saying 'jolly good show'?

The haka is a challenge, those being challenged have every right to do whatever they want in return and if thats ignoring it, singing Waltzing Matilda or standing face to face with those performing it then so be it.

Personally I think the Haka is being devalued somewhat. Having lived in London for 8 years (after having a kiwi connection) and seeing it performed every five minutes does tend to make the gloss wear off somewhat.

"In rugby league's first semi-final last week, New Zealand's captain, Benji Marshall, sneeringly attributed his team's victory to being fired up by England's "utter disrespect" at not watching the haka."

Before this idiot of an author starts criticising things he had better get his facts right.

When has Benji Marshall ever captained the Kiwis?

Their just jelous because they would look like idiots if they tried something like that themselves. ^_^

I got a heap of sh*t when I lived in the UK while the All Blacks were destroying the Lions tour. Nearly got in a fight for just wearing an All Blacks jersey.

But I think the All Blacks would love a challenge in a similar fasion. Like the other Islanders do. Gets everyone hyped up.

This guy is also not the first to whinge about the All Blacks in the last few weeks. There was an Irish bloke having a go the other day.

I've found it. Scotland's answer to the Haka.

I think he makes some valid points. Esp. regarding the commercialism. Waters down the act so to speak.

I couldn't care less one way or the other. It does however add a bit of entertainment and excitement in the lead-up to kick off, and when performed well, does give a sense of national pride, but at the end of the day, getting all bent out of shape at someone's entitled opinion that it be scrapped is just giving in to the very insecurities the author mentions.

Let it stay or let it go, either way, just stop getting so fired up about the subject.

I watched the game (through a haze of beer, bourbon and other nefarious mind altering substances I admit) and I'm sure Natham Cayless was the captain. Perhaps Benji was captain while Nathan was being spelled.

But I could be wrong.

The haka used to be awesome about 5 years ago when it was the all blacks, and only the all blacks who did it. Now every god damned NZ sports team to compete in any major sporting event has to whip it out. I agree that it has completely lost it's effect.
