320guy 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) Oh click RRFPR = Rising rate fuel pressure regulator oh ok again what would the cost be for a reasonable chip? thanks again everyone Well you would have to take it to a dyno and get them to tune it and burn a chip for you pretty much. Unless you can find a chip like TCD make for the m20. But even then I think the chips are around $400usd, so its still cheaper to get a secondhand link Edited December 1, 2008 by 320guy
Jeddy 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2008 Get a stand alone. Sure it'll cost more initially but in the long run it'll be better. Get a second hand one and a decent tune shouldn't be close to 3k. Someone else will have better knowledge re prices.

318isteve 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 anyone know the cost of blue printing the m42? and would a port and polish ($800) be a worthy investment when i rehone, balance, plane the head, and replace seals/bearings etc before going down the chipped 10-12psi forced induction route with a rrfpr? also valve springs would they need to be uprated? and would it be worth looking into solid lifters? thanks again
320guy 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Should only need solid lifters if you plan on revving it a fair bit higher than stock, same with the valve springs. Also might want to upgrade valve springs if you're going to go with a wild cam. But it dosent sound like you are going to do any of that, so standard lifters and springs are fine. 318isteve 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 who does a wild cam for the m42 and any idea on cost? cheers
mark247 39 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) who does a wild cam for the m42 and any idea on cost? cheers Having a "wild" cam is having a lumpy cam. It makes the valves open for longer etc. You would want one set up for the turbo I'd say. Changing your cam can increase top end or bottom end power, depending on what you do. I'm sure 320guy knows a hell of a lot more about it than I do. EDIT: and i think they cost around $400 - $500 to get one made from a blank camshaft. I'm sure 320guy will be able to clear this up as well. Edited December 3, 2008 by Mark247
Jeddy 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Obviously you'll need two cams for your project. Schrick do the m42 i'm pretty sure but they'll be expensive. Ring a few places or have a search
ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 This is from the original for sale price for Andrew/Gus/Slut Turbo 318iS I am selling this on behalf of a friend who is now living in Australia. Based on a mint 318is, it has had a complete engine rebuild, and includes JE forged pistons,803 injectors, special turbo cams, Motec M4 ECU, Cosworth T3 turbo and intercooler. It produces about 300hp at 18lbs. It has aftermarket suspension fitted (Bilsteins from memory) and a Quaife torsen LSD.It has all the cert bullshit, and will be sold with a new WOF and reg. Condition is immaculate, and it owes the current owner over $30K so far! Go figure. If you want it done right, thats what it will cost. I think Andrew also spent another good 10k on fine tuning, custom getrag 260 etc etc
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 still think my drift spec 40 psi lawnmower is better value for money, the bimmersport sticker added 50 more horsepower too.
westy 614 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Wow, did you get 50hp outta your sticker? I only got 49.5.
_BRS_ 209 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 haha i can see this lawnmower thing getting out of hand! but i think we need a new Lawnmower thread with pics, specs etc, would be a laugh!
Andrew 30 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Honestly if you wanted to buy the my/gus turbo I'm sure it is always for sale if you offered the right money. Like the ad says it has over 40k of development in it and is a spectacular car to drive now it is all sorted. It's sitting in my garage under a cover freshly serviced and polished waiting for Gus to drive when he is back hah. It is around 210rwkW and has a huge amount of development gone in to it. Similar power for less money is impressive but I doubt it would take the abuse this car gets (I've never had an engine problem with it, just driveline stuff)
