Rampant Phase III

Recommended Posts

Build diary for my motor swap from m20b25 to m20b25 + Toyota SC14 supercharger pushing about 0.4bar on chipped motronic ecu.

Should be a barrel of laughs when finished.

Day 1, Beer 1:

Boat is finally out of the shed. Spent all of yesterday tiding it up and prepping for today. So here she is ready for dismantling:

One bolt down, time for a beer...

Day 1, Beer 2:

So a few more bolts... Exterior panels removed.

Day 1, Beer 3:

Cooling system and a few other bits out.

Day 1, Beer 4:

Exhaust and driveshaft disconnected.

Day 1, Beer 6, 7 & 8:

Loom out, computer swapped over, powersteering drained, ancillaries removed, everything ready for motor removal tomorrow except for air con.

Posted Image

So that's it for today.

Current beer count: 8

I'm taking bets on how many beers till completion. There may be a prize for whoever is closest.

Tomorrow morning a friend is removing the refrigerant from the aircon (so as not to make more holes in the ozone) and then tomorrow night I'll pull the old donk out.

Stay tuned.

Nice documenting G

After 8 beers I might have been tempted to go "why don't I just pull this f**ker out myself right now then go to the pub!"

Looking forward to updates

Oh, you don't know how close I was to - f**k the ozone, GET IT OUT! But my "engine hoist" was up the road pulling logs out.

It's common knowledge that for any E30 project, no matter where on the car, the grills have to come off.

If this is the case, I wish to reduce my beer count!

Brilliant stuff Graham.

Im going for 89 bevvies. I reckon by the time you get it all on you'll be so desperate to get it driving that you'll give up on the beet altogether.

A good ambitious project, and a great base car, good luck!

My experience would suggest a couple of niggly little problems that frustrate the hell out of you for a while which will push up the beer count, there fore my entry in the sweep is 211 beers.

Should have it in within a week, im saying less than two 24 boxes. 34 beers.

Sorry guys. You were all getting excited weren't you?

Re calculate your beer counts. Graham is still low as I plan on doing a fair bit of maintenance, plus there is an intercooler to plumb and an oil cooler to figure out.

Martyn - no chance. The guys that know me will back me up.

I thought we all knew you were swapping to a S/Cm20..

Hard to gauge, im working it of 8 a day and guessing some days you will work dry.. will change it two 72 and a half beers, you’re bound to knock at least one over. Oh, and are we counting the beers other people will come and drink whilst talking projected figures and pipedream’s with you?

Yeah, I wondered why everyone was jumping up and down about a m20 swap??? Will still be fairly awesome though. Goal is 200+rwhp. Will be 180rwhp after the swap, but there will be kinks to iron out after I've driven it for awhile, and I hope to pull it up over 200 eventually.

No. Only beer consumed whilst working plus the obligatory end of the day one admiring one's own handiwork.
