People try similar at Bunnings

Recommended Posts

This picture is real - not doctored in any way - and was taken by a Transportation Supervisor for a company that delivers building materials for 84 Lumber. When he saw it in the parking lot of IHOP, he went to buy a camera to take pictures.

The engine is still running, as can be witnessed by the exhaust.

The driver finally came back after the police were called, and was found crouched behind the rear of the car, attempting to cut the twine around the load!

Luckily, the Police stopped him and had the load removed.

The materials were loaded at Home Depot. Their store manager said they made the customer sign a waiver.

While the plywood and 2X4's are fairly obvious, what you can't see is the back seat, which contains --are you ready for this?

-- 10 bags of concrete @ 80 lbs. Each.

They estimated the load weight at 3000 lbs.

Both back tires exploded, the wheels bent, and the back shocks were driven through the floorboard.

You guys are all obviously way to young. That is one of the oldest pictures in the internet and the beginnings of a massive photoshop thread of lumber being put in strange places on vwvortex from probably nearly 10 years ago.

(edit) It's actually so old I can't find archives of the original pictures / thread etc! It was in 2001.

The factory where I used to work in England has it's own weigh-bridge and was right by the motorway, so the police often used to use it when they pulled over vehicles which were clearly above their safe loading. Some of the sights we saw were amazing...

Lots of it was guys going over to France to load their vans with cheap booze... load a van to the roof (and beyond) with beer and it gets a bit heavy! As the police would make them unload the stuff they often had to get rid of it there and then so we would often buy a few crates dirt cheap. One guy even slept on a huge pile of beer while his mate took the van up north to unload and then come back for him the next day - hilarious

Saturday morning's used to be funny all the D I Y ers would load up their trailers with builder mix/ cement bags ready for the big concrete pour. The number of trailers that ended up with bent axles or even worse was crazy people just had no idea how heavy things can get.

I have watched a guy load 24 sheets of trellis onto the roof of his terrano.

He came back and bought some ratchet tiedowns and tied them onto the hand grab rails on the roof.

He was awesome.

A similar thing hay bales, standard squares though four of them tied to the roof rake of a Caldina station wagon.
