BM WORLD 1286 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 that rattle noise comes from the gearbox when the revs drop below about 600rpm ,and more so when you have a lighter flywheel. push clutch in and no noise just about all my bmw's with the lighter single mass flywheel have done that . but fix all your intake pipes (vac leaks) etc so its not running lean

Mark 178 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 Try taking a look at the thermostat. My car used to make the same noise, it would even sometimes stall when warm. It was because the thermostat was stuck half shut tricking the ECU into adjusting the air fuel mixture too rich and causing the engine to bog down and hesitate etc.
Forrest 35 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 that rattle noise comes from the gearbox when the revs drop below about 600rpm ,and more so when you have a lighter flywheel. If your car is idling really low i.e under 600rpm and adjusted to idle higher, will that decrease the rattle from the gearbox?
