I know there are few Audi owners around here.

Any thoughts about this - i.e bargain or don't touch it with a barge poll?

Nice unit mate, but I think Audi that old and that higher spec is asking for trouble IMHO.

Get it but get a warranty if possible.

I had one of these as my last car- amazingly strong, upgradable engine, worth more than the car is actually.

only 2 issues mine presented were worn front strut mounts (these are a heavy car) and dodgy auto- check system telling me that brake pads and rear brake lights were always out. REmoved beeper and bulb for this which took care of that! (system is seperate from engine check warnings)

And replaced strut mounts.

Odd that this one doesnt have an airbag, but at least its one less light to come on!

I love these cars. Put the engine into an 80 quattro sedan

edit: I pranged mine, panels drivetrain and lights are next to impossible to find as they are not shared with 100/A6

Why on earth, if they were changing the water pump would they not change the cam belt at the same time, even if the one on there looked OK? The last change was done 87,000kms ago!

Water pump is driven by a seperate belt Grant. Cambelts on those from memory are done every 5 years or 60k I may be wrong on the 60k, but most of the 5 cylinders are 60k

Not much can compare with a 5cyl turbo in terms of noise, sublime auralgasms.

The note was amazing- it used to make every bit of loose corrugated iron or tin within 5m reverberate

My dad had a silver wagon new back in the day.

Unbelievable car with the factory fitted A008's. It defined sh*t to a blanket. Pin the throttle and hold on!

Still don't think I have got close to the time I posted to Mt. Ruapheu winter 1994.

There is a manual one which I see in the neighbouring carpark here at work. Red sedan. Not sure if its a S4 or S6 but I guess 4 being manual.

I think the S6 was more common in manual compared to 4, but neither were common in manual compared to auto(in nz that is- grr).

I have my eyes on an unloved S6 in parnell that lives out on the road.... Probably a basket case mind
