ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted December 20, 2010 As per title, anyone on here get into their fishing? Bought a boat mid last Summer and have already had a sh!tload of fun in it. Caught some decent fish and have a bit of fun towing the biscuit. Being in Auckland I usually hit the Firth of Thames or the Inner Gulf for a decent feed (Spot X usually does the trick here) I'm looking forward to giving Jigging a bit of a go this season. Am yet to land my first Kingi, but I have never had the gear to handle them! Hoping to get a decent one this Summer So just bought a reel and will be rod shopping on Boxing day! Shorty 1 Report post Posted December 27, 2010 We bought a boat last year around March, took it out every chance we got over winter - there were some mint days.. Took it out today, got a few snapper... we head out from Kawakawa bay to the back of Waiheke or to Coromandel, takes about 40 mins (if its rough) to get there.. still looking for our "secret" fishing spot, but we always at least bring home dinner lol yum! allan 295 Report post Posted December 28, 2010 Fishing skill nil, In late November work mates and I got to spend three days away. Left from Foxton Beach out over the bar at the mouth of the Manawatu River. Then due west to D'Urville Is ended up travelling right around the island stopping to fish at various spots. Mainly blue cod, but had some fun with barracouta and 1.2mtr sharks stealing our fish/bait. deeveus 81 Report post Posted December 29, 2010 Into fishing big time myself but only seems to be fresh water fishing, bought a crib right next to the Waitaki River about three months ago just for it! It's great for whitebait, mullet (at the mouth) sea run trout, salmon (in the season) and brown/rainbow trout and the odd eel if you're that way inclined! Here's my latest acquirement... ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Went out last Friday and managed to land my first King. About 20mm to small to keep and also got our bag limits on Snapper.. Bought a 5ft Mako up as well which was a bit of fun! (This was all out in the Firth of Thames/Shag Rock.) Went out this Evening to the #6 Buoy in the Rangitoto Channel, Got a few Snaps but mostly quite small A few boats out there but nobody seemed to be catching much.. melowpuf 19 Report post Posted January 12, 2011 Has been a blast this summer.. best thing I did was go to the Wharehose and bought a $30 rod and real combo (complete with Graham Sinclairs photocopied autograph) loaded it up with 15pound braid and went to work.. So far 4 kingi's (of a total 9 landed on the boat between the 4 of us that day), and countless ocean kahawai. The drag is as tight as the pos reel will go and i'm sure i could see it smoking with a couple of them. I bait it up in anticipation of getting that one that will finally Smash the DirtyDollar into a million pieces. I just want it to DIE and then I will go and buy another $30 rod and reel combo from the Whorehouse. I noticed on the last outing a kind of fibreglass cracking sound when the rod is almost bent back around on itself. My brothers hate me with their zillion dollar rod and reels that dont catch fish...
