Thanks Oz Have had no problem with the Monroes for my e36. I replaced both front struts and it's handling fine. I was not looking for racing performance etc... I just needed something in my budget and they seemed a good choice. I recommend for these reasons. I think I paid around $450.00 for the pair (un-fitted). w_elliot 7 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 I have them in my e30. they do the job but theyre nothing special. perfect if your car is standard height and your not looking for anything amazing handling wise. i wouldn't recommend them if your car is lowered though. they have a tendency to blow through their travel pretty quickly, and when your car is lowered and doesn't have a hell of a lot of suspension travel this means youl be hitting the bump stops quite a bit. hotwire 352 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 Don't go Monroe in Euro. I did this years ago in the E12 when the OEM's were buggered & I didn't know better. Fixed compared to the originals but handling is nothing flash. They are still in there but the car is no rocket ship & is hardly used so no real issue. Would never use again though. KYB, Koni, or even Boge - usual OEM are options I would consider
Apex 693 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 I would go BOGE but they are not as cheap as they used to be. Shock absorber specialists in Manukau wholesale them.
Driftit 2078 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 Bang for buck there is nothing wrong with Monroe.
APT 195 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 I had Munroes in my E30 they were awesome IMO only swapped them to go with adjustables
Driftit 2078 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) Can do you KYB Excel G's fitted for Fronts $385 inc GST Rears $288 inc GST The KYB's are better than the Monroes. We use Koni in the E30 race series which imo is about the same as KYB. They are valved different however. Edited February 23, 2011 by driftit
w_elliot 7 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 I could only be bad mouthing them because i've been driving an aw11 mr2 track car on bc coilovers for the past year. by comparison the e30 handles like a bus. getting rid of the monroes and fitting some beefy swaybars is pretty near the top of the to do list at present. dubman 39 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 i have monroes at the front and kyb's in the rear. IMO, the kyb's are better, as they seem to be more responsive. My uneducated 2c.

Cheap Taiwanese suspension? And you rate it highly? Keep that quiet or youll upset the fanbois Edited February 23, 2011 by Jacko
w_elliot 7 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 did i say i rate it highly? the difference between the aw11 on bc's and the e30 on monroes and some red springs is night and day. yes bc's are cheap and nasty and taiwanese and all the rest. but handling wise they crapped all over my barge spec monroe setup. comfort is a different story, and the only thing my monroes have going for them. daily driving something with bc's is as good as asking for a few compressed vertebrae. That is all.
