Gaz 1060 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Today, Vodafone did a promo at Bathurst where they had Jenson Button and Craig Lowendes hoon around in their own and each others cars. Button did a 1.48.5 in the Mclaren but reckons low 1.40's should be easy enough if he could push it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNjIFzULPZk I'm sure more and better footage will come out in the next few days. Apex 693 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 A Skyline would still be faster but they banned it. F1 cars are just Taxi cabs with stickers.

Apex 693 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Oh the noise, the glorious noise. 40 seconds a lap faster than a V8 Super if he pushed it I recon… just not as fast as Skyline.. that they banned for being too fast.
3 SERIES 93 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 A Skyline would still be faster Are you serious? How did you come to that assumption?
|ncary 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Sounds like... Low Rev limit. Looks like... Display tires (super hard, used them when Nick Heidfeld went round the Nordschleife a few years back) Also looks like... 'If you put this car into the wall 5 days before Friday Practice we'll take your balls and grind them to dust whilst still attached to you'
|ncary 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) I do believe the Super super hards are used because when the car gets back into the pits, and the hoard of photographers come over, the tires look very pretty and like-new instead of covered in melted, flattened, lines and balls of rubber. Gaz 1060 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) A Skyline would still be faster but they banned it. Really? That's a bold statement. I doubt that the Aussie's would have let the Skyline get faster than an F1 car if they let it stay in the Championship. F1 lap record at Suzuka is 1.41 while the SuperGT cars record is 1.47. EDIT: Typo, F1 record is 1.31 Edited March 22, 2011 by Gaz
Mike 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Skyline was 2.6L twin turbo and 4WD, of course ts going to be faster than a 2.4L N/A car
Apex 693 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Of course it is, it’s the 4wd and turbo that make it faster than a N/A V8, its devils magic and just plain cheating, off with its head! Was taking the piss and getting the mandatory Skyline comment in on a Bathurst thread. Never mind. Even a prehistoric Flintstones V8 supercar is substantially faster than any Skyline. Mandatory Prehistoric technology comment covered. The McLaren used for this demonstration is the 2008 championship winning MP4/23 F1 car so no problems with saving it for Friday. Go RBR. kwhelan 241 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 haha yeah if you watch some of the other clips you can clearly hear them shortshift but good on a v8 driver for being only a second down in an F1 car, thats quite an achievement, theres one clip where going into chase button goes right up/in to the corner and brakes where lowndes brakes v8 style early almost comes to a complete stop and has to reaccelerate to get to the corner, guess the substantially better brakes are harder to adjust to than the power. $toffz 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Slightly OT but why dont they hold an F1 stage at bathurst?
westy 614 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Slightly OT but why dont they hold an F1 stage at bathurst? Would be a whole heap of work to make the track conform to regs.

Gotheschu 1 Report post Posted March 24, 2011 Sounds like... Low Rev limit. Looks like... 'If you put this car into the wall 5 days before Friday Practice we'll take your balls and grind them to dust whilst still attached to you' thats not this years car. just an old one. so doesn't matter if he binned it in regards to the first round in Melbourne... |ncary 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2011 Yes Apex has already covered that. Can't research everything sadly, and '08 F1 cars sure do look like '11 F1 cars when they are 47 pixels across.
cliffdunedin 8 Report post Posted March 24, 2011 Would be much more awesome to see a low drag Ferarri F2004 or a Brabham, 1600hp BMW straight 4, fly over Conrod!
