How to make an 328CI e46 sound more grunty?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of just removing the last silencer box ? with a straight pipe would that make it any better

It would be too loud with no rear box as that is the main noise suppressor in the system.

Plus.. if you get pulled up by a patrol officer you would probably get a green sticker ( I think ) which means you need to get your car certified with a new quiet exhaust.

For the best sound, see Jason at Wolf Mufflers get a bolt on Remus twin tip muffler, I paid $650 for mine (RRP is $1100+) and its excellent, really nice deep smooth sound.

Best sounding mod I ever did on my M52b28 was my K&N filter and cold air box.

Induction noise > Exhaust noise.

In my opinion of course.

I prefer exhaust noise over intake, In fact I deliberately made my intake as quiet as possible to reduce the induction noise drowning out the exhaust note.

Only decent sound from a BMW straight six comes from real equal length headers

and yes it would be too loud without the rear box

How much would equal length headers cost?

I have been reading up on this and there is a mix feeling , I would like to do this to make my car little more get up and go but undecided if this would help over the standard air intake?

would this benefit me ? and were could i get this

M52TU engine in your car is a twin vanos unit. If your car is an import will have two into one exhaust.

This is restrictive along with exhaust manifolds and intake manifold. Hence your car only makes power to 5.5k.

You need to open up intake and exhaust to allow this lovely donk to breathe.

+100

My e30/m50b25 sounds way tougher than it actually is, burbles at idle, sounds better than most M3's ive heard while screaming, and over-runs are awesome.

I have cheap ass mufflers, single 2.5" exhaust, Coby resonator, chinese turbo muffler (added after as initially was far too loud), and the generic shiny twin tipped euro muffler on the back.

I can imagine it'd sound like sh*t without the equal length 6-2-1 headers :D

If your car is imported you will have a 3/2/1 exhaust system. Just post of cats there is a very restrictive 50cm or so where exhaust merges to one. Removing this restriction greatly improves mid to top power and deepens exhaust tone. Cost me around $280.

Think it was srbmw that had the last one for sale.

UK ebay has a few cheap ones pop up. They are starting to get a bit more expensive now as people are starting to catch on to the mod

Do they fit on an e46,e39 and/or e34?

Do LHD and RHD headers differ? clearing from steering? was thinking of buying one.

You'd be gambling with lhd headers. Might get lucky but i doubt it

LHD headers will not fit! Not even close, hits the steering shaft and rack. Some LHD units will fit 5 and 7 series.
