e36 racecar

Recommended Posts

Ahmed,

My guess is I have a date with a grinder and the guards, ......

would love to push for 18x10 wheels on the back....

more rubber, = wider track width. In my mind anyways.

I'm not saying it's impossible to flare the guards sufficiently with gentle heat & a roller but I couldn't convince myself I'd gain enough clearance for the inner arch not to foul under compression.

Surely there will be pictures or even a how-to guide of other racers the have run a 10" wheel somewhere on the internets / on overseas forums?

With the rear spring on your new BC golds, whats the measurement from end to end if its 160mm your car will be higher than factory, needs to be around 110 due to the weight reduction you have done. i had to send mine back and get one custom made by them, just a fyi :D

thanks very much on the heads up Garett,

Ran a tape over the springs got 140mm with( no adjustment parts installed). ( it says so on the side of the springs )

I've got e46 swing arms/ control arms that lower it by 30 -35 mm so in the ball park of what you suggest.

On your 18x10's did you roll the guards.

Yeah panel beated the crap out of them, if I did it again I would just stick to 9" rear and front and run a 265 all round or something like that. Once you go 10's your limited on what ya can run with out cutting and flaring.

Sweet so yours should in theory be as low as mine without adjusters in, the photo above I had adjusters in so would not rub

Call me old fashioned, but doesn't running a 235 tyre on a 10 inch rim counter the point of wide wheels? A 235 will happily fit on a 8 inch wheel, saving you all the bother of needless panel massaging. Yes, I get the whole aesthetics of big wheels for street cars - but I thought this was a track monster? Also, is it still vaguely legal to 'stretch' tyres these days?

Yes for track people say its no good with massive stretch but atm mines more of a drift monster lol, will be a dedicated track car soon though, so my cars arches will be getting the chop to make room for some really wide tread :D

If you trawl back on the Bimmerforums 'Track / Autocross' section you'll find a bunch of threads for running 265/35's on 18x10's for 'stock' fendered E36's (ie. rolled & pulled).

Are you planning on running Semi's (Like R888's) or going for Slicks?

Anything less than a 305 is a fail ;)

Becareful not to over tire for the weight of your car. EG alway having to get soft compound because your contact patch displaces too much weight and doesnt actually warm up the tire properly / get enough effective contact. In saying all of that, 10inch with e36 weights will be fine. Tires are costly however for the good stuff.

went out and got a pilot bearing puller today , pulled the bearing , changed the rear main seal, fitted the flywheel and clutch and pressure plate . 77lbs

Going to run a standard clutch at the moment will look at up specing it later.

Attach the gearbox tomorrow and move to the back of the garage out of the way.

Plans for the weekend , plumb up the brakes : from peddle box to callipers front and rear mount the reservoirs

Jeebus, that is massive!! Looks like it should do the job.

Don't mean to be a kill joy but isn't there something in the MSNZ regulations about how far behind the car a spoiler can stick out? The looks to be a looooonnggg way back.
