E46 MSport Waggon

Recommended Posts

Hi guys….got must self a BMW…..you cant see my smile.....but its there, mates and work colleagues tried there best to talk me out of it…but I didn't listen… "Its going to cost you a fortune"…."wait till it breaks down"

Flying Radio controlled Planes, and having a young family…I decided a wagon was best. Finding a Msport version was even better!……so the deal was done.

Anyway, I gota a few questions:

Apart from the main dealership in christchurch……who do we trust for servicing?

Climate Control:

When I select- Cold / High… it feels cold….but the airflow feels limited……interesting thing is, the vent closest to the Windscreen now has hot air coming out??

Is there any kind of organized events coming up…?

Cheers

Antony

Welcome - great looking wagon !

Your climate control sounds normal for the E46 - mine used to do that as well (however I'm no technician!).

Check out some of the second tier BMW specialists in the Chistchurch area for servicing.

Welcome, nice purchase, i also have a Msport wagon in gray.

Mine also does that, the thing i do is put hot air to the window and it will eventually warm the car up within a minute :) Very envious of your sunroof, mins NZ new so didnt come with one :(

Had a look through Bimmerfest.com, sounds like a common problem with the A/C on the E46.

Theres alot of similar problems out there....but no solutions?! I had CHCH BMW check the gas levels and there fine...buga...they said, we would need to spend some time to pin point the problem $$$$$$

"E46" have you done any fine turing of the mighty wagon? I'd love to install a a twin M3 Muff on the back! got any pix?

Cheers

Welcome Antony :)

Motorsport e46 wagon is a fine choice, I would love one at some point.

DCH is the place a few of us Christchurch guys head to for servicing and work so check them out. Also check out the meetings forum as we have a meet coming up on the 22nd.

Heh, love your friends attitudes "Wait till it breaks down"

Seems to be quite a widely shared view that BMWs are notoriously unreliable, mostly from people that have never actually owned a BMW before.

I was originally put off by buy a BMW for that reason, but since buying them for the past couple of years I've been pretty impressed with their reliability and ease to work on.

You must of got the ones people dont look after, as the 5 ive owned have been perfect, apart from the usual plastic peices in the engine needing replaced at 100ks lol

actually, the issue is that they have usually been molested in some way before i got them. they only two that havent been dodgy and never broke down on me were the only two that were 100% stock standard. unfortunately with so many flatcaps out there these days, finding a good one is becoming harder. mind you E46 is still out of thier price range ha

Dad's E30 325i has cost him about 8K over the 14 odd years he's owned it. I think that's brilliant! He's a stickler for servcing (starter wouldn't go one time he tried, but worked second time, so he brought a new one because it worried him!) His previous Toyota cost him 1/2 that, but in only 4 years, and the Holden before that... Well, lets just say his next car will probably be another BMW!

On my E46 there is another knob / dial between the centre air vents in the dash with markings from blue through to red, which seems to have some effect on the air coming out the top - maybe a kind of dual zone for the air-con. Have you tried adjusting that at the same time?
