M50B25 into m10 e30 worth the hassle?

Recommended Posts

heya now down to my car i have a PFL, NZ new, factory manual, E30 coupe.

I'm wanting more power and a bit more unique-ness to my car, so decided to put the m50b25 sitting in the shed to use. before i take on the task..

1) Has anyone done this conversion into an M10B18 powered (or un-powered :P) E30?

2) Is it worth the hassle?

3) Is it do-able without first getting wiring looms etc for 325 and doing the obd plug rewire or aftermarket ecu?

Any help would be awsome.

just make sure the car is a real good one to start with

seen too many projects where they start with a rough car and end up with a fast rough car that no one wants to buy unless its real cheap.

maybe a old school M30B35 conversion from a e28 ,e34 will suit a pfl car??

but probably easier to do and easier to get parts is to use a m50b25.

good luck with the project

ps whats the m50b25 out of??

For unique-ness I'd be doing an M10 + Turbo.

There is a nice E30 318i build on e30tech, and you only need to glance at Mike Delmonts' 2002 Turbo to the potential (and cheque book req'd).

An M50E30 is so played out for a measly 192hp (stock).

yeh car is straight its a NZ new and has been well looked after just a lil rust but its been fixed, m10 turbo or supercharged did go through my mind too but im not after big HP numbers its alreadytractionless with its 80 odd HP now so 19X HP would be more than enough. And engine out of E36.

I know all about the E34 sump etc needed but im not too flash with electrical stuff. as far as looms go i know i'll need engine loom but what about engine to body loom etc mine isn't OBD like the facelift M40B18s are.

do i need ALL the wiring incl. dash looms?

(just wanna make sure i've got everything i need before i start)

Supposedly the prefacelifts for one, but primarily the M10s are far harder to do it on than facelifts. Wiring is similar but different enough to be annoying.

+1 to what most other people said, especially the importance of having a good shell with all the interior/light/other unrelated-to-engine curcuits in good condition. i learnt oth of those the hard way and is why mine got parted out in the end
