Needs a tidy up before proper attempt, but my mate and I took a few photos last night. It was our first time using a decent camera lol

Advice and criticism please!

cheers, so use a tripod and set slower shutter speeds?

umm tripod does help but sometimes it takes that little hang ajustment to get it perfect , it all depends on your skills with the tripod and how steady your hand is when taking a photo. but yeah i would use a slightly lower speed in those photos just to get a little bit more light into them. but not bad at all. :)

William, i know nothing 'bout photography mate but have a couple of suggestions.

Pic' one would be a winner BUT....................the 2 arrows and keep left sign distract the eye away from ya car. Next thing is if doing night shots don't have head lights on, park lights ok but not head lights.

Otherwise sweet pic's.

RE above photos. I think the last photo is the best overall it just needed to be manually white ballanced. The depth of field is also too shallow so the rear wheels are soft.

here is one I snapped this arvo with my $90 camera. it's someones 1975 e12

Your car is seriously awesome. I really dig the 3rd pic.

cheers for the feedback guys, much appreciated.

bellicose: yup, agree with the points u made, i think i tried to include too much detail in the parking lot pics, and the lights took several goes to capture that "halo" above the lights with minimum glare

Matt: with pics 2-5, they were taken with a fixed lens (lens that cant zoom, is that what you call them?), is that causing the lack of depth of field?

Max: pic 3's my fav also haha, must have similar tastes in e30's then

again, cheers for the feedback, good advice for a 1st timer

Nope, it's you fstop that effects focus range.

Because you shot that at night and probably on auto (if your new to photography) the camera would use the lowest F stop and open right up to let as much light in as possible, but this also limits the focus range.

I use the saying. The smaller the number the bigger the hole the smaller the depth of field

The bigger the number the smaller the hole the bigger the depth of field.

Lenses work the same as our eyes.

IMO there should be some variety in the calendar, not just full of E30's (that hell rot Alpina from CHCH) although there's some damned good pics in this thread. Possibility of X series, 8 series?

I'll chuck up pics of my two favorite X5's I've had.

Yup keen as long its in the next few weeks and not later. Can do the photography too

How about an evening this week or weekend (w/e might be best so I get time to give the car a clean!)? Dusk is good for car shots... I can bring a camera too - between us we should get some good pics.

Byron, would be good to have your wagon too?
