rebuild or buy a new diff

small case or medium case.

If you've got the gear and time to rebuild it I can go into it in more detail

I have no idea what the difference is. Is there anything appearance wise that would make me tell the difference?

between small and medium case? they both are cross compatible (just have to use the built in adjustment color on the driveshaft itself to shorten it. But the small case has four mountaing bolts on top as will as the hanger, the medium has six or 8 to do (been a few years since ive done a swap)

If the whine isn't that bad, you can just put up with it. BMW diffs are pretty strong and would continue to work for a long time
