drifty325i 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 Hi All, Its been a while since I posted on here, as many of you know I have been philandering around the UK and Europe for the last 3 years but the time has come for me to come back to catch up with family and sort a few things out while I'm back. One of those things being my BMW, Dads had it stored away for me while I have been gone and in his wisdom/stupidity/shear laziness has misplaced the keys for it. The boots open but the rest of the cars locked, any ideas if I can order a new key from BMW? Can this be sourced via the number plate or do i need the chassis number? Can i find that anywhere else on the car on the outside? Good to be back and Hello to all! Cheers Riley
huff3r 347 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 Not sure if it's true for E30s, but for a lot of cars the code for the keys is written on the locks. So might just be a case of taking the bootlock to a locksmith?

Eagle 1662 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 Lost mine for E34 once. Went to the dealer with chassis number and proof of ownership, got the key mold number then took to a local key cutter who can cut bmw keys. Thats all assuming you got the original locks and ignition in the car

HELLBM 1555 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 Chassis no. is under the bonnet. Insert a screw driver thru the grill on the left-hand side by the headligts. Locate the slotted hole in the bonnet catch and twist. Bonnet will open. A BMW design for release cable failure.

NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted November 15, 2012 If you don't want to waste your time on opening the bonnet, I'm pretty sure the VIN comes up on CarJam when you enter your number plate.
antil33t 90 Report post Posted November 15, 2012 ^ it does. Unless it's entered wrongly, like mine was.
