deeveus 81 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Visit My Website I'm completely blown away by it. It corners like nothing else & there is so much power and torque every where. Michael. 2313 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Some how I rather been seen in a much more tasteful looking Alfa Romeo hatch with half the power than something like such as this.
deeveus 81 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Ooo, I dunno, it's not the best looking from the back but from the front I think it looks good. Supposedly the most powerful 4 cylinder petrol production car and the A class is now the safest car in the world? As an engineering exercise they've pulled it off IMO. lord_jagganath 421 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 all that torque vectoring. but the look is far too aggressive for an otherwise supposedly sedate city car
Phil-540i 166 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Hmm - for virtually the same price, I'd sooner have this............. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-635838729.htm I don't see myself as ever gonna spend close on 100k just for a car though.......even if I won Lotto I'd struggle with the concept a bit......... deeveus 81 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 The merk is a little more practical with the two extra doors and is quicker to 100 than the BMW, these are quite different IMO. Launch control is a piece of piss, no buttons, just foot on brake, foot flat on pedal, release brake and hold on.

deeveus 81 Report post Posted September 22, 2013 Designed by the same guy that designed the SLS. Had it again today. It does grow on you. I can't understand how they can get that much power and it returns 6 l per 100kms. The noise is epic. The performance is mind blowing.

Yea, I dunno - I tend to be fairly 'old school' in how I see things, & much as you rave about it's performance - how long are you confident it'll do that for?? Long term, I believe theres no substitute for 'cubic inches', & regulary I see it with highly stressed smaller cc diesel motors. Work them hard, & its like 'sending a boy to do a man's job' - after plonking down close to 100k, what do ya reckon it'd be like with 150,000kms on it........5 years old etc....... It's one of those cars you REALLY have to go and see and drive to appreciate IMO. The 96k price tag is off putting, but I can advise that there's a hell of alot of tech in this machine, it's super safe, super quick and all going well, super reliable. They actually have solid pistons like a diesel as 26 P.S.I from the Turbo... They're great when you want to clown around and drive quick, but they are also docile and very comfortable when in comfort mode. I actually think the A 45 should be diagnosed with Schizophrenia lol. I'm not too sure to be honest, that said if you are buying new you have a 3 year 100,000km warranty, free servicing, free WOF, free vehicle washing for the term that you own the car. There's some piece of mind there, after that, there's always the aftermarket warranties which I would insist on.

Yeah I can get around the mid to low 5's on the open road on the 320d also. It averages about 6.5-7.0 but then again, this is all city driving and in we live at the top of Dunedin, if it was a flat city I'd expect it be around 6 per 100 city. E30 325i Rag-Top 2956 Report post Posted September 24, 2013 I haven't driven one, but all the reviews of this new little Merc say it is very impressive perfomance wise - not just the power, but the handling as well. The styling on the other hand is a matter of taste - personally both the exterior and interior are far too busy and fussy. Looks like a riced-up Boy Racers hot hatchback to me. I would like something a bit more "classy" for 96k.
Apex 693 Report post Posted September 24, 2013 Hmm. Now what else circa 90k could you cross shop it with that is classy? A new one of these, its definitely a bit more understated in a kind of way: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-587864403.htm I think I would take the Merc. Or the new Golf R that is due soon.
deeveus 81 Report post Posted September 24, 2013 Yeah the new Golf's are very good looking, even the previous shape was. I'm still not sure I like the front of the new 1 series personally. Is it just me or has there been some really awesome looking cars released circa the last 12 months? There also seems to have been a massive leap forward in power to litres per 100km in the last 12 months or so as well. Put it this way, a B 180 uses 6.2 per 100, the AMG 45 uses 6.9 per 100. It's like the new X5 25d as well, 5.2 litres per 100kms on a 2 ton car lol.
Apex 693 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 Efficiency technology has been implemented in a massive way the last 5 years and cars have come a very long way, its the technology difference between a 1980 MY car and a 2000 MY car. The way things are evolving a car that is only 5 years old now is dramatically outdated in every way. A lot of the efficiency is in the direct injection control from the ECU and the new gearboxes that are very smart at putting the car in the most efficient gear, tyre technology also plays a role as does weight reduction. Just think this car is faster than a Mitsubishi EVO from five years ago and drinks half as much fuel. Personally I am a bit sad that we are loosing the manual gearbox in the quest for numbers and efficiency, after driving a new double clutch car the last few weeks I could not wait to get back into my manual car, and TBH I do not mind if the car uses an extra 1L/100 if it means I can have a proper gearbox. Phil-540i 166 Report post Posted September 25, 2013 Hmm, those would be the EU Test figures, try getting close to those in real-world driving. True this bit - its gotta be all done in test lab or whatever under ideal optimum conditions - Toyota say my ute is 'supposed to use 11 litres diesel / 100km - 15/16 is closer to the mark, with at least 80% of its running being 'open road'...... Allanw 1071 Report post Posted September 26, 2013 My old Suzuki Cappuccino was 660cc 3 cylinder turbo, claimed 67BHP (probably more though - Jap KEI rules said 47kw was the limit), ran at about 4000 at 100 km/h, and regularly saw 7500 rpm ("normal" changes were 4000 to 5000) and the initial rev limit was 9400, then dropped to 8800 after 2 seconds, and it had done 145K when I sold it, with no issues, no oil consumption, never had the engine out/apart. There were examples in the UK with over 200K MILES on them. Though I do also know of an NZ one that went to the salt flats, and it threw a rod at 13,000 rpm... because of harmonics, the rod bolts just unscrewed, apparently
