E38 transmission fault, any ideas please

Recommended Posts

Hi; I'm still looking for my ideal bmw. Haven't written off the 2001 728 with the drivers door that can't be opened. But my sights are now on a 1998 735iL with a transmission fault. Apparantly the car has decided its got a transmission fault, and is in "emegency mode" only 4th gear availiable, I am unable to view car. Just an idea, but is this likely to a real auto transmission fault, or just a sensor/electrical fault. Yes the car is a Singapore import, about 130,000kms. Hasn't been used for nearly 2 years, reg on hold. Any "sensable" advice would be welcome, I will end with one of these E38's soon. Just I really fancy the LWB versions. Cheers in advance

try to replace the transmission ECU.

Buy a slab of lion red, KFC for 6 people and a hooker... the problem will then seem very insignificant... just like your post

Maybe two hookers Glenn, just in case one has fault too

You can probably get three on Hopetoun Street for less than the price of a slab of Lion Red. Can't vouch for their 'quality' though.

When they look like Jona Lomu in a skirt you are cruising the wrong street. Don't laugh at them cause they run just like Jona could.

Back on topic... get it checked out properly by a person with BMW or Automatic experience... Not Fit Stop, Midick or ABC

My experience comes from yelling out obscenities as we drove past as kids.

They can run and throw rocks very well. As for Milan..

Glenn that first comment made my day. Crack up.

This would obviously be included if you were to get the whole car thoroughly checked by someone who knows BMW's but failing that, get the seller to have the fault codes read and send you through the printout. It's usually very cheap, and while it won't necessarily tell you the exact issue, it may give you an idea as to whether it's worth making further, potentially more costly inquiries.
