euroriffic 609 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) So the other day the missus said the car felt like it had no power as she was driving up the hill, tried to accelerate but wouldn't do anything for a few seconds but then came right. Then today as she was stopped on the hill at the lights then went to take off but all it did was rev up high. So let it go back to idle then try again and away it went. Had a search but was mostly for 2003-4 cars from US sites but mine is a 2001. Any ideas? Edited March 26, 2014 by euroriffic
antil33t 90 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 Low fluid? dingus did sh*t like this... accelerating and braking, then trying to accelerate again it would have no drive. Probably worth just getting the filter/gasket and drain/filled
euroriffic 609 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 It is sealed for life but will try find who can do it
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 They aren't sealed at all and quite serviceable, but hardly anyone does. It may be terminal if it's slipping and need rebuilding. I would check oil level first and not throw money at it till you can determine what is actually wrong. Contact your local Auto Trans specialist.
MISS BM 712 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 If you are in Auckland, AA Automotive (Or TCRS) would be a good start. They deal with BMW transmission problems on a regular basis - and as Glen said, not sealed for life, I could attempt a fluid change if I wanted too. But give them a ring, good friendly guys. jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted March 25, 2014 Yep, sadly 'sealed for life' means the life of typical BMW ownership from new (so 3 years until the warranty runs out) - after that should be serviced regularly!

MISS BM 712 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 Ahh sweet, will try ring a few places today then. And I'm in Dunedin unfortunately Amber-Leigh Apologies - couldn't see area location when I was using the iPhone app. However, Dunedin places could be A.B Automatics and Integrity Automatics, only places I can remember family friends from down there using for a VW transmission problem, or there is the trusty Google
euroriffic 609 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Yea gave integrity a call and said it could be low fluid. But just drove up to my olds and don't know if it was the same what the missus had but it dropped a cylinder and wouldn't rev over 4k or change gear... Am hoping it's just a coil as it seems to be fine when cold but when it warm it starts missing. Had the same thing with a wrx I had. One thing after the other with this car Edited March 26, 2014 by euroriffic
euroriffic 609 Report post Posted March 31, 2014 So turns out it was just cyl.6 coil had died and was causing the gearbox issues. Had to rob a coil off the M3. Was waiting to here back for my garage so could get it scanned just t check for gearbox faults but they never did so just sorted it myself. Will still get box checked tho

Michael. 2313 Report post Posted March 31, 2014 Sounds like it's pretty much sorted. If you were truly in dire straits I was gonna suggest a Toyota engine transplant to save the day, 2JZ perhaps?
euroriffic 609 Report post Posted April 1, 2014 Haha she does like giving it abit since it's got the Schnitzer/Remus exhaust on it so sounds pretty good! Are you're right blue, not too much wrong down here. And a 2jzgte would be a sweet swap Michael! Be better in my ute tho haha! There is a guy selling an e46 with a Lexus in it tho...
