Custom driveshaft

Recommended Posts

Off- topic section due to marine application,

A boat I am restoring has a short length of driveshaft automotive style with a UJ at each end.

Flange to flange would be about 750mm with one end to a flange on a Velvet Drive output and the other to a flange on an inch diam shaft.

On the aft UJ where the 2 flanges couple, it has corroded badly removing about 10mm of steel from the radius in one area. The while shaft has surface rust which I was going to have stripped before I found the damage.

What is the most cost- effective process of me ending up with a good unit? Should I get someone like ADL to make me up a whole new shaft with UJs? or do I pillage a driveshaft from a car and get it shortened someone that does this?

Help appreciated.

I'm in Auckland.

Cheers

Probably best to see ADL, they should be able make and balance a new one, or modify something you take them and balance that up. I just had one shortened for my e21, was about $400 all up (including new centre bearing)

Just make sure they are not using their usual cheap UJ's. ADL are pretty bad for that. I used to work there.

I used beaty's (sp) in Penrose. They are awesome and do some really high end marine stuff.
