kwhelan 241 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Im in same boat as you trying to downsize an e39 525 touring, test drove a 120 2007 and hated it,4 cyl just seemed pathetic hunting thru 6 speed auto box continuously and the inside was real cheap plastic looking everywhere, had a cheek to have a bmw badge i reckon. Was the same price as a brand new lancer with 5 year warranty and every option you could think of. I know you can get bigger engines but the interior was just drab cheap looking plastic. the 120i was rated 3.5 stars fuel which is same as my 2.5 e39 and pretty high I reckon considering
kwhelan 241 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) Don't shoot me but Im seriously considering one of these but probably the 2.5 model 4 door Skylines were always a good car and motor and theres some real low mileage bargains around http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/nissan/auction-718868573.htm Edited May 24, 2014 by kwhelan

jake1829 119 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Owned the 335i for a year now - and loving it
Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 I'd vote for the 335i touring. 225kW / 400Nm claimed output, but I have seen a few threads around that claim BMWs figures were a tad conservative. Wiki claims one 'independant' test produced 248kW/422Nm, though it was conducted by Dinan, so my inner sceptic is a little dubious. Touring +300lb/ft = Go for it! Touring +300lb/ft = Go for it! they came out way under-tuned from factory so not to wreck their M3 sales with just a software tune on the 335i - you can gain a easy 60-80HP

jake1829 119 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) Sorry off topic how much did that software tune cost? Depends on the route you want to go (flash or piggyback or both) - the below have OTS (Off the shelf maps) for various stages of modification - Open Flash Tablet ($499 US) http://www.procedetuning.com/BMW/n54/Openflash/index.html JB4 ($509 US) http://www.burgertuning.com/jb4_pnp_BMW_performance_tuner.html Cobb ($995 US)http://www.protuningfreaks.com/tuning/cobb-ap-tune.html ( comes with a custom tune) Bimmerboost Software (Free) - you just need to buy the cable ($179 US) http://www.burgertuning.com/scanner.html Important thing is to log when doing map changes to see how its affecting the car Edited May 25, 2014 by mod335
roo 41 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 Hmm its a tough one really.. I've been looking at Merc C55 AMG's, smaller then the E Class.. 4.5m long.. so basically Similar size to E90 3 Series.. but 360hp 5.5L V8 We have one of these in the family. Great cars. Super fast, looks timeless and packed with features. Sounds good too!
jake1829 119 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 Well, that just makes them all the more compelling! Just a example of gains you can get on the stock motor & turbo's (baseline with oem map was 238HP)
