Grant 4 Report post Posted November 2, 2005 Just buy one here, why buy one from overseas. Coombes Johnson in Tga should be able to get one for you easily enough. Cheers Grant
bravo 35 Report post Posted November 2, 2005 Clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing = $350. At your nearest BMW parts place. Avoid authorised service agents as they charge alot more. Go to anyone else who specialises in BMW parts.
Guest Andrew Report post Posted November 2, 2005 what do you mean it "blew" - as in you have no clutch pedal.? Or you have no drive in any gear? Or it slips? Its pretty odd to just have the clutch disc stop working all together in one go. Are you sure you don't have a hydraulic issue?

Its pretty odd to just have the clutch disc stop working all together in one go. Are you sure you don't have a hydraulic issue? Yup, the clutch has been slipping for ages as it is, as the pressure plate needed replacing, but also every thing else was on its way out as well. And yeah it wont go foward now. ( or backwards )
Gus 5 Report post Posted November 2, 2005 try and make some sense, is your clutch slipping, or not engaging? if its not engaging then its prob a slave/master cyl. if its slipping, prob clutch time i got my LuK clutch (southafrican brand) for $250 from brake and transmission in auckland...might be something similar down there, or get it from up here. BMW clutch is about 450 for the set not a hard DIY job, but first time might take a while. make sure your flywheel is in good nick too. might even want to get it lightened while your there
325_driver 422 Report post Posted November 3, 2005 ok ill try and make sense this time The whole clutch needed replacing ( quote steve from sherson ) about 3 months ago, so its been slipping, having engaging problems THE whole package. And now, it doesnt engage. ( sorry im not a car mechanic ) but ligtened fly wheel, how do i go about in doing that ?
Carl 3 Report post Posted November 3, 2005 You might aswell go ahead and do a clutch kit plus slave and master repair kits since you make it out like everything is f**ked Then if you want to lighten the flywheel you can take it somewhere to get machined and balanced while you've go the g/box off aswell as possibly uprating the springs on the clutch plate for a stronger engage. Gus 5 Report post Posted November 3, 2005 aswell as possibly uprating the springs on the clutch plate for a stronger engage. and how would one go about doing that carl?

bravo 35 Report post Posted November 3, 2005 Whilst on this topic, what are the options available to shorten clutch pedal travel? Are there upgrades to either the hydraulic side of things, or the pressure plate that would mean the amount of pedal travel could be significantly reduced? I've gotten used to the stock setup, but when I first started using it, I felt it was a bit long.
Guest Andrew Report post Posted November 3, 2005 could put a clutch pedal limiter - but personally i'd rather fully engage the clutch just to be sure.

All these will probably require you put a stop on the clutch pedal to prevent the slave cylinder popping open on depression. Also, the spring fingers on the pressure plate can be made to release more quickly by putting thicker, higher tensile etc ones in but normally makes the clutch quite harsh with not much slip, and you have to have a good buddy in the clutch business to custom make one for you. I may look into it next year.Cheers
325_driver 422 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 hey guys im just thinking about getting a kit shipped in from pelican parts as they seem reliable ( not too flash on the replies though ) hate to be a pain but heres a question u guys probably might be able to answer. Clutch kits for a 325i on pelican parts are 1987 E30 models onward, i have a 1986 i dont see why it wouldnt fit. but i dont know enough about the mechanics of it all. Will the clutch for a 1987 E30 fit a 1986 ? theres no big difference between the two So i can just order it in and forget about the tech questions i keep trying to get through to pelican parts cheers
