francoisv 466 Report post Posted February 9, 2015 Anyone have or know of a place that does decent trade ins? Looking at trading my Atenza Turbo in for an E60 545 or 550, but the few places ive been to are someone sleezy or offer ridiculous trade in value on my car. my_e36 43 Report post Posted February 10, 2015 You never get good value by trading in. If the car is tidy, best to private sell. Could easily be an extra grand or two more than what you get traded.
qube 3570 Report post Posted February 10, 2015 The problem i see is that your atenza turbo and a e60 5er have totally different target markets. So any dealership that sells euros and have the e60 probably wont be that keen to take a turbo japanese car. Not saying theres anything wrong with your car, ive seen it and its cool but just will be a bit hard to find a dealer that does both.
KwS 2425 Report post Posted February 10, 2015 The other problem is that your Atenza is modified. Its a huge risk for most dealers to take on modified cars, so you would need a niche dealer. Better off selling on TM.
francoisv 466 Report post Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks for the input fellas, I just don't like dealing with the trademe bums that tyre kick. Might just buy an E60 out right and set the Atenza for $1 or something
coop 261 Report post Posted February 11, 2015 To be fair $1 will be the easiest and most stress free way you'll get rid of it. Two out comes can come from $1 reserve, in that the final price can suprise and reach or exceed what you were expecting, or the car will sell for its true worth below what you would have asked on a listing - but you won't have to deal with dreamers, the car sitting around for months, insurance, reg, wof costs while its in your possession with a price tag on it that no one will pay. I've $1 reserved several cars all under 10 grand and its the way to go imo.

The dealer needs to make a margin and or cover for the value they're providing you to get the car off you hands in an instant. Depends what your time is worth to you. kiwi535 538 Report post Posted February 12, 2015 trade ins are good only for convenience...drive in and drive out...but you pay for it.
qube 3570 Report post Posted February 12, 2015 somtimes trade ins are worth it because its a good way to take a couple of grand off the new car's asking price. so essentially you are getting a bit less for your car as trade in but the new car for less as well. just a matter of finding the right dealer who has an e60 and is willing to take your car. but in all honesty, i would buy private over a dealer. especially because most dealer's bmws will be jap imports and everyone here knows NZ new is just better. good luck man!
