The "P" is used to show the engine has been developed by the Motorsport Division for racing, in the same way "S" is used for engines developed by M Dept. So M50 -> S50 -> P50 are all based on the same design, but different levels of design and development.

I have never seen reference to a P50 engine before, was one developed? E36 ran in SuperTourers (2ltr) and GTR specs as factory cars, can't think of any 3.2 versions?

Are you sure you dont mean the Group-A parts for the s50b30,32. I too havent heard of a p50 version either. Not to say it doesnt exist somewhere in the world in some form. It was at a time when BMW gave up racing in a primary form. The only next Pmotor I know of is the P60.

I do have my S50 Group-A parts catalog somewhere.... lets see if I can find it.
